Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, and Annika Sorenstam. These are just a fraction of athletes that have helped golf become more recognized as a sport. Although these pioneers exercise great athleticism, their sport is not recognized by a large portion of people. Another reason they disagree is because it is something you can do while drinking or smoking. I don’t think this argument is valid because there is nothing stopping you from drinking or smoking while playing a leisurely game of football or baseball. It’s well known that the old-timers like aren’t afraid to puff on a cigar midway through their round, but this just adds character to the …show more content…

It has not always been an Olympic sport but it was added to the event in Rio De Janeiro in 2016. Golf was also apart of the Olympics 1900 and 1904. Women were not allowed in the 1904 event in St. Louis, Missouri. It took years of preparation and over $60 million for the course in Rio. The Olympic committee would not expend this amount of resources for something that isn’t a sport. In 2016 Justin Rose of Great Britain won the men’s gold medal, Henrik Stenson of Sweden won silver, and Matt Kuchar of the United States won the bronze medal. On the women’s side Inbee Park of South Korea won the gold, Lydia Ko of New Zealand won silver, and Shanshan Feng of China walked away with bronze. Only sports are showcased in the Olympics such as swimming, running, and basketball. Therefore, being that golf is now in the Olympics it should, without a doubt, be noticed as a sport by all

This age of sports was right after the First World War. The First World War was a mad one, and people didn’t want to hurt others, anymore. In the book, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby there is a quite a bit of references to sports that includes golf, football, and baseball. The time period the book was written in was the 1920s where a lot of people had a lot of leisure time. The people who have already been rich and never worked for it or the people worked for it and has already achieved the American Dream play sports to satisfy their boredom. It is sad to say in sports there is cheating and corruption involved even though its meant for fair play and relaxation. For instance in The Great Gatsby, Jordan cheats during her golf tournament, and Meyer Wolfsheim fixes the world championship, both Jordan and Wolfsheim did it for themselves.
For example, Henry Mcdonald was the first black male to play professional football, and Jesse Owens was the first African American to be a four-time Olympic gold medalist. Sports was not just for men, women played as well. Helen Wills was a professional tennis player and won her first championship in 1921 when she was just 13. Boxing was another sport that made its appearance in the 20’s, one of the most well known boxers
However, there are a lot of differences between sports, leisure, and recreation from 1920 to the present day. In the 1920’s one of the biggest sporting events was golf. In the book The Great Gatsby Jordan Baker's favorite thing to do in her free time was to golf.

Tring to understand the events that happened, do to a religion stand point can become complex and extremely confusing. Dr. James Hutson, a Historian and chief in the Manuscript Division at the library of congress, discusses what rights are and what “a right” means. Dr. Hutson work and findings lead him to believe that giving ‘a right’ a definition was not logical but rather ‘a right’ was divided in to different categories. Dr. Hutson also talks about the founding father of the United States, which he says, had their actions greatly influenced by their believes and faiths. The right of being educated, or rather even having the right of education didn’t mean that the education was not influenced by the church.

It wasn’t until the eighth grade that I realized golf had more to offer. At that time, I was playing baseball and basketball. Although I enjoyed them both of these sports, they weren’t the sport I loved.
I began to take golf lessons in the 5th grade. At the time, I stereotyped all golfers as rich and lazy people with too much time on their hands, respecting them the least of all sportsmen. It was the cop-out sport that did not require much effort or physical ability, played by pretentious folk who wanted to appear sportsy without putting in the effort. Simply put, the game was unprofessional. Some of these convictions were based on my knowledge that it was one of the only sports in which players hit a stationary ball and walk, while some even had the audacity to smoke, drink, or drive golf carts during play.
