In general I would say Richard Nixon was a fairly decent president. During a time where there were many protests amongst the American public (especially the youth) against the troops in Vietnam, Nixon was able to pull the troops out of the war. Nixon also reduced the tensions with the Soviet Union, and helped China join the United Nations. He also helped decrease the amount of racial discrimination by segregating schools in the south. It is a shame though, that those achievements of his are not acknowledged because of the Watergate Scandal. The greatest president that has ever served the United States is George Washington. He was not only the first president of the United States but also the commander in chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He was victorious over the British and quickly became a hero doing so. He helped draft the constitution and with his leadership and courage. As first president, he become a role model for every other present succeeding him and helped create our countries values that we cherish so much today.

Nixon’s presidency is considered very controversial and people have widely different opinions about whether or not he was a good president. People broke into the Watergate building to wiretap phones and steal secret documents. Nixon knew about the break in before hand and tried to cover it up. When people found out about him trying to cover it up, he decided to resign as president. He gave his speech on August 8th 1974 and resigned on the 9th. Nixon successfully apologized to the country by using pathos, ethos, and logos, as well as other forms of rhetoric.

There's certain benefits to thinking this way though. It's very important to keep one's own happiness and well being at the forefront of their mind. People should not be expected to constantly cater to others. Selflessness is completely overrated. Equality is not wrong to want something for himself, especially after servicing others his whole life. But while Equality's outlooks aren't necessarily bad, there still needs to be balance. If everyone thought only about themselves, society would crumble. People have to rely on each other to an extent, and total selfishness would prevent this. That being said, someone can have selfish moments while still being a good person and caring for others. There doesn't have to be polar opposites when it comes to selfishness versus selflessness. There's so much emphasis on putting others before oneself that people often forget to look out for their own needs, as shown in this book. Ayn Rand successfully captures the negatives of an overrated ideology and presents an unorthodox perspective on the matter.

When ranking the presidents a few that might instantly come to mind as the greatest might include George Washington or Abraham Lincoln. One that came to my mind was Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
