Good Or Bad Art: The Old Age Of Art

To first understand what is good or bad art go back to the old age of art and understand how painting Jesus and nature turned into colored blocks and stained glass. First of all is in ancient China where artists were painting people, animals, plants and mountains but mostly what the emperor told them to paint (“History of Chinese Art”). Most of these paintings had text on the side explaining their meaning but it always had meaning. Turning to the “old world” in Europe at the age of the Renaissance where many historic artists came from showed mainly Religion, and self-portraits as the main art style of that time. That’s where post-modernism comes to life because unlike Modernism, Post-modernism is the age of new ways of art like abstract art, or different ways to look at the world (“Postmodernism History”), so ill art or distasteful art today is based on peoples’ opinion. There might be people who like it and people that don’t but one thing for sure is art should not be made of animal materials of any kind well except feathers but painting the Virgin Mary out of elephant dung (“Chirs Ofili’s controversial, dung-decorated Virgin Mary painting”) would have a lot of people hate the artists choice of painting material. Artists are well known all over the world to think outside the box in different ways that make people hate their paintings at first and over time the critics grow to like the paintings (“Gustave Corbet and his paintings,” “Vasily Kandinsky”). But a religious painting out of poop is just looked at as sacrilegious and so there is a huge difference from thinking outside the box and being a mental idiot. Living as an artist you will get people that love, like or hate your art, but judging art is an opinion. Looking through the internet on this topic it’s mainly peoples’ opinion on what is good or bad art but art that is against peoples’ beliefs or made out of something nasty or wrong should not be shown in galleries or the…show more content…
