Ever since I was a young child, I enjoyed structure and searched for it in the midst of chaos found I life. Being an only child, I was not able to rebel against my parents and was under constant surveillance. However, as I grew up and entered my teenage years, my parents viewed my choices as rebellious ones. They felt I fell out of their structure and began to build my own and become my own person. Growing up with this structure also lead me to search for it in my academics. I always strived to obtain as much knowledge as possible because I knew that I would be able to handle the challenge. While in high school, I took a variety of different subjects and discovered a particular interest in science, biology specifically. As I fully began to …show more content…
Discovering the right tools to teach young children disciplined martial arts was not easy. While learning these skills, I developed a bond with my students and my interest for how children operate was sparked. I continued to volunteer twice a week at my dojo for five years and my bond with those students only grew. To further my interest in interacting with children, I sought more opportunities to be around children. in the future, I was offered a teaching job at my childhood dance studio. The owner informed that me that I would be teaching girls ages 5-18. Not only did I take this job very seriously, but I also used it to further develop my desire to help children and young adults. I still teach these girls, and as I get older and learn more, my interest to learn about children grows and expands. When a baby was born into my family was when my love and interest for infants blossomed. This baby was not only taken away from her parents at birth, but she also was facing great genetic odds for mental disabilities. I knew that she was going to have a hard life and I made it important to be around her as much as possible so that she could too, grow up with some stability and foundation. This was the first time I was presented with an opportunity to be around an infant for an extended period of time, and I used it as a …show more content…
I want to continue my education and excitement to learn more to support my future goals. These goals mostly include biology and infants. By attending graduate school, and potentially medical school, I will be educated sufficiently to care for infants and young children mentally and physically. I look forward to using my previous scientific knowledge to dive deeper into biology and learn more. It is my goal to be able to work with infants in a hospital and to do so, I will need to be able to also deal work patiently with their parents. Through overcoming a difficult past, I have the ability to manage and help others view situations in a different manner than how they are. Finding a way to have my parents understand my sexuality was difficult, but doable and finesse is often beneficial. Visually is a learning tactic that best suites me and I often times I struggle learning directly from a text book but look forward to improve this with more practice. I often take time to sort out my thoughts and structure them when trying to solve a problem, such as a research question. In graduate school, I plan to decrease my time planning and increase my time working on the question. I look forward to increasing my public speaking skills and abilities as well in a graduate program because I often times am nervous with presentations. I want to be able to support my future goals of working with infants and children in the
Additionally, it offers me an opportunity to attain other extensive skills and appropriate clinical training to ensure that I am sufficient enough to work in a wide variety of settings. Also, graduate school will provide me with advanced techniques and technology where I am able to acquire professional knowledge and the ability to think critically. Similarly, it offers many opportunities for me to further expand my knowledge in the field of speech language
My enthusiasm for this field is rooted in supporting and caring for others. When people asked me “what do you want to be when you grow up?” My answer was ever changing. The one constant was my passion for helping children. While attending undergrad at Stephen F. Austin State University, this field fell into my lap.
I have always had the desire to find a career that enabled me to help others improve their quality of life. Growing up with my father as an elementary school teacher, I witnessed first-hand the positive influence you can have on a child’s life, as well as their future. He always stressed that each student is an individual, not just a number. Early on, I learned that every child is far more than their standardized test scores. Even though I felt the draw to work with children, I knew that little reward came from the hard work of being a regular classroom teacher.
As I grew older I realized that she needed my parents’ attention more than I did and maybe if I had a psychologist to talk to, I would have been able to get through that difficult time in my life. My interest in psychology led me to seek a job at Applied Behavioral Intervention (ABI), where I started working with a child who had autism. I saw firsthand the effects of attitudes and behaviors and how they can impact a situation. This was eye opening and mind blowing.
Distractions were not okay. She strived hard to get to where she is now and I will always look up to her for that. My cousin, Shavon, had the same passion for babies as I do. She actually used to baby sit me every weekend. She told me that she loved caring for babies who couldn 't do it for themselves.
As I studied United States History in school, I became fascinated with the imperative role that Madison orchestrated in the Progressive Movement in the 20th century, led by the great Wisconsin Senator, Governor, and alumni Robert La Follette. I was proud of Madison and its historic role in such a pivotal point in American history in breaking the trusts in the Glided Age, leveling the income inequality between the workers and the Robber Barons. Consequently, I decided to apply at the University of Wisconsin – Madison because it continues to orchestrate a role in the country academically and socially Furthermore, similar to Robert La Follette, I strive to generate an impact in society and history regardless of my major or occupation. Moreover, the campus and city is remarkable incorporating the cosmopolitan characteristics and ideals of a world class city along with the beautiful landscape of Wisconsin.
Throughout my life, I have been opportune to study in Korea, the United States, and China. This international exposure contributed immensely to my perception of the human race. I began to develop an appreciation for the diversity that led to an open-minded perspective on the world. As my worldview broadened, I developed a curiosity in why people did what they did. Thus, I am keen to further my knowledge on different societies and their interaction with one another to solve this fundamental question.
I introduced the child by doing group activities. During my placement I have observed teaching techniques and the way the teacher gets the children excited about the subject. Every day at placement was a new challenge as new lessons and different obstacles took place which required me to change my teaching method and interaction. It is amazing to know I had benefited a child’s learning and this has further boosted my desire to become a
Statement Of Purpose- “Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self- confidence”. Great are the words of Mark Twain and true in my career. Throughout my career, I was always ready to learn new things and bring out best results. I am a studious person from my childhood and had a good and consistent career graph throughout my school life.
When discussing almost any topic with one of my four younger siblings, the most common question they ask me is “Why?” Regardless of the subject, from biology to computers, my brothers and sister have a profound sense of wonder, fascination, and interest. While it can be frustrating to answer their simple or repetitive questions, I always attempt to answer as best I can. I engage in this Sisyphean task because I was just as inquisitive as a child. I asked and asked questions, which instilled in me a love of learning and a desire to answer my own why questions.
I was lucky enough to have the same little for three years and she brought so much light to my life. She was a deciding factor in my decision to pursue education. When working with my little those ah-ha light bulb moments are what made it all so enjoyable. Being able to help her have those moments and figure things out that she thought was too difficult mad me realize I wanted to help students every day find the potential that they didn’t know that they
In the next five years, I hope to obtain my Masters degree in Special Education. Receiving my master’s degree is an investment in my future that will provide many opportunities for me to work further with kids. By receiving my Masters in Special Education I will be able to be present in a school and help kids achieve their full potential. It will also allow me to get further schooling in what I’m truly passionate about and become more knowledgeable about the subject in order to
I have always had a big heart for every type of person. I was successful in my first job as a youth basketball instructor, as I was able to show patience and compassion. As a “youth basketball instructor” for our town’s Rec Dept, going into my first day I had no idea what to expect. I had experience my little brother for 10 years, so I was confident I could work with young children. First, what I needed to learn is that there are different ways of explaining a basketball skill so a kindergarten could understand it.
When I first started babysitting it was for a family with two children that were under the age of four, a little boy named Bentley and a newborn girl named Charlotte . The little boy has low functioning autism, which mean he was unable to speak and did things differently than other children. It was difficult to watch them at times, charlotte would be crying and fussy. Bentley would be crying for all my attention directed towards him, but he also had days where he did not want my attention and wanted me to leave him alone. Dinner time was always one of the hardest times of the night.
After several years, I noticed that the job was getting very physically and emotionally demanding; I didn’t want to go scrape two-year-olds off the street anymore, just to go home and tuck my own in bed. These were the type of events that made me realize I did not want to miss any more holidays, weekends, or family gatherings. With no regrets, I had the privilege of saving a life, bringing a little life into this world, and watching a life go
