I have always had the desire to find a career that enabled me to help others improve their quality of life. Growing up with my father as an elementary school teacher, I witnessed first-hand the positive influence you can have on a child’s life, as well as their future. He always stressed that each student is an individual, not just a number. Early on, I learned that every child is far more than their standardized test scores. Even though I felt the draw to work with children, I knew that little reward came from the hard work of being a regular classroom teacher. Thus, I pursued majors in Biology and Visual Disabilities when I first arrived at Florida State. Yet, they never seemed to be the right fit for me. I decided to take the introductory …show more content…
Academically, I have dedicated my time, attention, and effort to the coursework offered by Florida State University’s Undergraduate Communication Science and Disorders Program. My extracurricular activity has included serving as a Freshman Interest Group Leader for the Helping Professions here at Florida State. This has allowed me to gain experience as a mentor for others and assume a leadership role. As I worked my way through communication sciences coursework, I came to realize that I not only wanted a career in working with children but specifically those with disabilities. My love for this occupation has been solidified by my experiences, over the last two years, as a licensed Speech-LanguagePathology Assistant. During my high school years, I pondered upon what my future held for me. The only thing I knew at the time was I loved science. It was during my junior year that I discovered how much joy my AP Psychology course brought me, particularly the units which covered the brain and how it produced behavior. This set me on my path to pursue my undergraduate degree in neuroscience. When I arrived at Randolph-Macon College as a freshman, I had the opportunity to meet a couple of excellent peers whom I will be forever grateful to.
One of the many motives I love the field of speech-language pathology, is the immense selection of professional opportunities available, from our schools and clinics to medical institutions. I love the idea of being challenged by new, real world experiences in speech-language pathology, and it is important to me that I continue to give back to my community. I know that The University of Texas Communication Speech Disorders program will help me in achieving these goals beyond what any other
As I studied United States History in school, I became fascinated with the imperative role that Madison orchestrated in the Progressive Movement in the 20th century, led by the great Wisconsin Senator, Governor, and alumni Robert La Follette. I was proud of Madison and its historic role in such a pivotal point in American history in breaking the trusts in the Glided Age, leveling the income inequality between the workers and the Robber Barons. Consequently, I decided to apply at the University of Wisconsin – Madison because it continues to orchestrate a role in the country academically and socially Furthermore, similar to Robert La Follette, I strive to generate an impact in society and history regardless of my major or occupation. Moreover, the campus and city is remarkable incorporating the cosmopolitan characteristics and ideals of a world class city along with the beautiful landscape of Wisconsin.
I come from the lower social class and whose family is from a low-income household. My parent’s highest education is high school; therefore, they do not have a career. My father works at a grocery store and my mother cleans houses. When I was a child, my father was the primary breadwinner; therefore, my family did not have a lot of money to spend. Moreover, growing up in a low-income household affected me as a child because I did not have the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities from private institutions that taught ballet, karate, and art because my parents could not afford them.
Throughout my life, I have been opportune to study in Korea, the United States, and China. This international exposure contributed immensely to my perception of the human race. I began to develop an appreciation for the diversity that led to an open-minded perspective on the world. As my worldview broadened, I developed a curiosity in why people did what they did. Thus, I am keen to further my knowledge on different societies and their interaction with one another to solve this fundamental question.

Admissions Essay At the age of 12 I learned that I was born into a family of shopaholics. It's not as bad as it seems when you realize that you are one too. I think of fashion as another artform, an artform that can tell a story without words. It has different meaning to different people, which makes it unique.
Knowledge is the power that lets you know the world you already are exposed to in a new light. I believe, the more you know the better you are as an individual and as well as a society. Along with that it is also really important to know the right thing from the right people. Today, the right kind of education is the driving force of the future, both individually and collectively. This certainly makes me believe that it is quintessential for me to have an education from a university that will add credits and also make me a better person and help me serve the society in a much better way.
I never envisioned myself in a professional role that involved me working behind a desk or in an office without constant interactions with others in some capacity. I always saw myself having a career that involved interacting with children and witnessing their eyes light up or that "aha" moment when they learn new concepts. For a while, I was still deciding what career would be the best fit for me, but now I know that seeking to be a teacher is the best fit for me. A career as a teacher is meaningful and will allow me to work directly with children daily. In the role, I will teach them educational and behavioral skills while also being able to provide them with the necessary resources to witness their growth.
Attaining a higher education as a student that comes from a low-income family has been one of my greatest achievements as an individual. I am a first-year student as well as first generation in my family to go to college. Where I grew up opportunities of studying abroad is merely unheard of. Harlingen, Texas is where I have lived my entire life and is today considered the poorest city in the nation. On many occasions we are predominantly Latino and don’t come from much.
I would like to start with a confession, I am the prime example of a jack of all trades. I am interested in, and participate in anything that can help change the world for the best. I am however currently in love with climate responsive architecture design and the importance of education to young people. Why am I interested in empowering the education of young people?
It is been a while since I wrote my last personal statement for my graduate school application. I am not a quick decision maker most of the time, but interestingly I made the decision to join CFRM without much pondering. It does not mean I did think about the resource and effort I have to pay as a part-time student. It is because I know many people regret not doing it during the early stage of their career.
