As I studied United States History in school, I became fascinated with the imperative role that Madison orchestrated in the Progressive Movement in the 20th century, led by the great Wisconsin Senator, Governor, and alumni Robert La Follette. I was proud of Madison and its historic role in such a pivotal point in American history in breaking the trusts in the Glided Age, leveling the income inequality between the workers and the Robber Barons. Consequently, I decided to apply at the University of Wisconsin – Madison because it continues to orchestrate a role in the country academically and socially Furthermore, similar to Robert La Follette, I strive to generate an impact in society and history regardless of my major or occupation. Moreover, the campus and city is remarkable incorporating the cosmopolitan characteristics and ideals of a world class city along with the beautiful landscape of Wisconsin. …show more content…
Consequently, I will take advantage of the state of the art computer science program offered by university to receive exceptional instruction in computer science. Furthermore, I will take advantage of the multitudes of extracurricular opportunities offered by the university to engage myself politically and socially in the community as well as society. Although I intend to study computer science, I strive to participate in Student Government at the university because I am fascinated with government and its workings and machinery. In addition, I aspire to actively participate in political groups and organization in the campus because I adamantly believe that enlightened and passionate citizens are the foundation to a strong
Far from being an introvert, I intend to join the University’s College Council and serve as a vocal advocate for students on campus. Given my background as a community leader through my seven years of service to the Henrico County Public Library system and my personal experiences attending a low-income school (where 55% of the student body is on free or reduced-price lunch), I am especially interested in giving a voice to underrepresented students both on campus through student government and off campus through the University Community Service Center. Similarly, I intend to contribute to the Chicago Debate Society, through which I hope not only to share the slightly unorthodox debating strategies we’ve developed in the Henrico High School debate team but also to propagate a culture of inclusion in debate which I’ve personally sought to foster over my three-year tenure as
Similarly, the goal of educated change unites Penn’s students. When I visited the Penn campus and strolled down Locust Walk, communities and clubs emersed me. At their tables, I made sandwiches for the homeless of Philadelphia and learned about raising awareness of women’s rights in the Middle East. Each group had their own distinct goals and wanted to change a specific aspect of society. I could easily start conversations, and the activities of the other students captivated me, teaching me about new and distinct topics.
Ever since I was a young child, I enjoyed structure and searched for it in the midst of chaos found I life. Being an only child, I was not able to rebel against my parents and was under constant surveillance. However, as I grew up and entered my teenage years, my parents viewed my choices as rebellious ones. They felt I fell out of their structure and began to build my own and become my own person. Growing up with this structure also lead me to search for it in my academics.

Initially, I was enamored by my like-minded classmates. I soon realized, however, that while many of them share my political views, they do not share the experience of growing up in an economically diverse community. Exploration of numerous disciplines imparted upon me the realization that what I had been searching for all along was not a different major, but an even more foundational challenge. The cultural consensus is too thick here, at Bard. Paradoxically, many students are alarmists who lack urgency.
I learned from the best in high school, including one very dynamic tenth-grade English teacher, who helped prepare me for work in honors, AP, and then an English major at Clark University years later. I am thrilled for the opportunity to apply to Shrewsbury High School now, as I have evolved since my days as a student at a rival high school into an English teacher committed to emphasizing student voice and to preparing his students for the 21st century world. I have found success so far in an urban setting in Worcester’s Main South neighborhood teaching at Claremont Academy, a school serving 500 students, grades 7-12. During my full-year teaching internship at Claremont, set up through my Master of Arts in Teaching program, I have taught sections of 9th and 11th grade English Language Arts to groups rich with English language learners and students with IEPs and 504s. I know that my skills can easily transfer from an urban setting into Shrewsbury.
It is at the urging of my undergraduate advisor—and Harvard alum—Bethany Nelson that I am submitting this application to you. It is her belief, and mine as well, that my academic record and career goals are a perfect match for the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and more specifically, the Specialized Program. I know that you will agree. In 1999, I was valedictorian of my class at Avon High School.
Overall, the nature at Penn will allow me to grow as a learner not only in my discipline but in others. Penn’s collaborative environment will allow me this. The small class size and the encouraged collaboration with professors will allow me to grasp a deep understanding of political science while at Penn. In addition, as a minority diversity is something that is incredibly important to me. This idea was only strengthened by my time at the University of Mississippi, because it was there that Penn’s constant emphasis on diversity as well as their strides to make every student from all walks of life wI long to be in a community where my classmates and I equally contribute in the exploration of each other’s interests.
I am an exchange student from Brazil and one of the biggest challenges for me was to find my place in this world, to discover my vocation. Ever since I began considering new alternatives for my university education, I have been convinced that I should study a particular course that was truly interesting for me. Therefore, I knew that I wanted to study Tourism and applied for InHolland University in the Netherlands. Currently two years later, I feel pleased and satisfied with my decision. While studying Tourism Management, I have gained much knowledge both in a professional and personal aspect.

I was born on the island of Puerto Rico. I was raised near a marine protected area, and have been involved with the ocean ever since. As I was growing up I started looking into possible future career opportunities that would get me involved with marine life. I decided to study a degree in biology to broaden my perspective in nature. I started college at the University of Puerto Rico where I became involved in marine conservation projects.
The English program allows for students to have a prominent voice in shaping examination and thesis boards and offers programs that promote professionalism among the graduate students through career preparation workshops, trips to conferences and on-campus forums (slu.edu). Allowing students to have a say in how they pursue their education is essential for overall success and happiness. The program also gives students the opportunities for close interactions with faculty and fellow students, as well as to run more that six organizations. The Political Science program gives its students an “expertise in national politics and policy, in comparative and international politics, or in political theory and analysis” (slu.edu).
The public sphere is unique, as it pertains to many different organizations. Ultimately, public sphere can be defined as, “crucial to identifying the public good and to shaping both public and private strategies for pursuing it,” as scholar Craig Calhoun (2011) explains (p. 9). As it relates to The University of Southern California, public sphere describes the shared social reality of the school’s staff and students alike, in addition to the values and purpose that it instills in all of its members. In order to gain the admission necessary to attend such a highly acclaimed university, certain personal symbols and their agency must be emphasized to align with the values of the college and its designated admissions office. These were determined
I am currently an undeclared Liberal Arts major, but I am leaning towards declaring Women’s Studies as my major. I will likely pick up a minor or two somewhere along the way on my journey at UNH due to my wide variety of interests that has made it difficult to declare a major in the first place. The 2016 election was the catalyst for my passion in critical social justice due to the hurtful nature of the campaigns of several of the candidates running for president. During the end of the election I was in an AP Government and Politics class that examined the intentions and outcomes of every move each politician and political party made daily. This forced me to stay informed about the current problems of our nation and stay involved in the
Five years ago, my brother was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukemia. I could do nothing to help. It hurt to know that his condition was out of my hands. That helplessness turned into a strong motivation to make a difference in the medical community, and help people like my brother. I self-studied everything I could about my brother’s disease and discovered an electrical engineering research paper that used data of the cytology of Leukemia cells in machine learning to predict the disease prognosis.
