It was a quiet Tuesday night in a small town in Ohio. But two teams were just taking the field in what would be a great battle between them. It was the Red Sox vs. the Athletics with me being on the Red Sox while most of the better players being on the Athletics. The Athletics started to take the lead early and it continued through some of the early innings. Our coach Lance, who was a very corpulent and ignoble man started to become very irate with how we were playing. So between one of the innings he gave us a speech to try and motivate us into playing better. I must say that his speeches were more of pointing out mishaps and scolding people for them instead of motivation. Then there was me. Our team was playing good but it wasn’t good enough against the Athletics. The Athletics were one of the top teams in our league and we were more towards the bottom. I was doing my part in the game playing first base and it was more of our pitching that was bringing us down. During the game I remember the umpire made a bad call and it caused Lance to have an intemperate outburst of anger and storm onto the field. Then he …show more content…
That feeling of everyone congratulating you and talking about you was as sweet as cherry pie. But once the talk died down I went back to being the average baseball player. That year we didn’t even make it to the playoffs because our record was so bad and that would be the last time I would play for Lance. After that I didn’t continue my baseball career into high school or anything. The main reason being that there was a lot of competition and my skills were not up to par to compete. So that moment of me hitting the home run will also be something I look back on and smile about. Even though it may not be a big deal for some players who hit home runs all the time it definitely was for me because they tend to be pretty
They hit one of our best pitchers and they earned that one. We struck out 13 times in that second game,
Later on I gave up baseball because of a loud mouth, enraged coach, who only wanted to win and enjoyed yelling at little kids for the smallest mistakes. In the end baseball taught me that if you aren't enjoying what
When the All Star Game approached, the Tigers had a record of 57-27 which was a very mediocre record from where they were at the beginning of the year. “I hope our guys can tighten their belts and dig in”
The bottom of the Cincinnati order was teeing off on the Sox's ace. The game ended with the Redlegs winning 9 to 1. Meeting later that night with Charles Comiskey, Sox manager Kid Gleason was asked whether he thought his team was throwing the Series. Gleason hesitated, then said he thought something was wrong, but didn't know for
However, over the years my strategies to win have constantly evolved. This year, my approach was simple: emphasize hitting over pitching. After extensive statistical research, it became clear to me that such a strategy typically translated into winning. My scheme paid off; the “Cavaliers” won the league for the first time ever. Five years ago, I barely understood how the scoring worked, so it was rewarding to finally win with a newfound understanding of numbers.
The Babe walked over to the stooped figure at the microphone and threw his arms around Lou's neck. Photographers froze the embrace in time. ”(Wulf 4) According to ESPN, Lou's speech became known as, “Baseball's Gettysburg Address.”
Gehrig gave an emotional speech about how truthful he was when he was talking about his fans he spoke with a nice tone. Lou was very respected by his fans and team players from his baseball team. Facts about Lou Gehrig his lifetime 1.080 OPS ranks third all the time behind Babe Ruth and Ted Williams Gehrig’s prime stands was only excellence he just missed out on the eight seasons in 1928 which he racked up 210 hits and walked 95 times but no player has put up a 200-100 season when Tood Heltom played back in 2003. For example, Lou reminds me of since he was part of the New York Yankees my grandpa loved baseball so much and on the weekend when all the cousins would stay with him he would always take us to the park to play baseball and he was very good at it and his favorite team was the Yankees he would always wear his jerseys that he will buy and my brother and I still play baseball to this day
Baseball Narrative Rough Draft I was so nervous for this morning’s competition. Today was the day that I had the chance to show to a judge what I had to offer into the heat of the KMEA Piano Kansas State Competition. The songs that I had practiced over from June to October were mere children’s play compared to others in the group who played pieces like Claire de Lune and the 12 Variations of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (no one in middle school with common sense would choose repertoire made for high schoolers). “Melody, make sure you go over the spots in your songs that you need to work on”, Mom said, shattering my thought process.
Houston Astros player proposed to his girlfriend after winning the World Series (-- removed HTML --) If someone asks Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa what he did that night, he’ll probably say, “We beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game Seven of a gruelling World Series… oh, and I proposed to my girlfriend!” What!?
Knowing the importance of scouting in professional baseball, I helped the coaching staff implement a way to track trends and data during our three game series. So the “bench-squad,” as we called ourselves, soon became responsible for charting opponent hitter and pitcher tendencies, which provided invaluable data for our coaches and players to make in-game adjustments throughout the week. I still wanted to play, but I embraced the opportunities my teammates and I had to help our team win
At 4:00 p.m., the ref was going to start the game and at first, it was 7 vs. 11 for the first three minutes until more players from our team showed up. I could tell by looking at the coach that he was disappointed with the team. It was close to halftime and they were winning 2-0. Throughout the last ten minutes of the half, I was pressuring the other team.
I started my journey to the plate. I looked at my first base coach Timmy for reassurance. He must have sensed my nervousness because he smiled and gave me a reassuring nod. I turned my gaze back to the batter's box and jogged the rest of the way. After what seemed like an eternity i finally reached
For most of my childhood, the sport of baseball was the one activity I loved above anything else. Nothing could compare to the exhilarating freedom and satisfaction of bolting full speed around the bases, determined to steal 2nd, beating the "Throwdown" by a fraction of a second. The massive dust cloud kicked up by my cleats and the thunderous boom of the umpire shouting, "Safe!" made me feel empowered. It was in moments like those, when I was in control of my own fate, choosing whether to stay or to run, whether to play it safe or to risk failure, that I learned one of the most important lessons of my life.
First Week as a Freshman Baseball Player The summer was almost over went I realized that in a couple of weeks I will be in my new school that is not anymore a school, now we are talking about a college. When the times came I was on an airplane, on my way to Texas. My feelings were really emotional because I was living my hometown, the city that I grow up and never left for too long, on other hand, I was really excited because I was doing what it was right for me. I had a scholarship to play baseball and study for free.
This has given me a sense of maturity that I can approach things in life thinking that everything is a learning experience and no matter how large the failure, the success can always be bigger. My coaches have also taught me how to respect the game because it has created a respect that I can take into the real world. The respect that I show to umpires and to players on the other team has shown me that the players who represent the game make up what the game stands
