I believe that the graphic format, in the novel Abina and The Important Men, enhances the topic because it lets the reader see the emotions the characters in the novel are going through. It lets readers see what the author wants us to see, rather than have the reader assume for him or her self. The format allows the reader to see the action being taken by the characters and lets readers see the emotions the characters are portraying. In addition, I believe the graphic format appeals to a larger audience, like students. A reason it is appealing to students is because there is not much text, this is great because we will have the mentality that we will get the information we need quickly, without having to read much, and there are pictures to
First Imagery is used to give the reader a mental visual of a scene or image. For example, the quote from page 29 makes you visualize an image of Elie’s family being separated, and the quote on page 115 makes you visualize a boy looking at a corpse in the mirror. Next, literary devices are used to express how the main character feels by showing what will happen next, giving non-human objects human abilities, and having the opposite meaning. Third, first person point of view is used to help the reader connect to the main character more. For example, the quote on page 39 means when you you feel scared it can change your actions just like Elie, another example is the quote on page 72 explains that when Elie motivated himself by thinking of what they might say about him, and sometimes doing this can help the
The writing in the chapters is very detail oriented and it makes it very easy to imagine what is going on. A lot of times throughout the book it seemed like I was right there, or it seemed like I was watching a scene from a movie.
It helped me aligned the context of what the author was saying also helped place the various themes into context as well. Rejecting the material was a bit difficult, as it was getting to the point where I was trying to use as much as I could and found very
The design of something is crucial to getting people’s attention. Rubenstein uses bold colors and images to grab the audience’s attention. It is important that you make the font easy to read as well. The font is an easy to read style and the color stands out from the background. Rubenstein puts the words in a column down the page, so your eyes follow the pictures that are next to the text.
Brian Niswonger Dr. Nicole Pacino HY104 - H09 06 March, 2023 Prompt 1 The story of Abina and the Important Men is one of freedom, retaliation, and, ultimately, injustice. Throughout the story, we follow Abina Mansah as she fights for an escape from the system of slavery that she was raised in from a young age. Attempting to solidify her personal autonomy, she brings her frustration to court, which followed the British judicial process. Because of the abolitionist movement that was widespread across Europe, the civilizing of Africa and its relationship to slavery grew to be a touchy subject within the legal system of the Gold Coast.
It is to win the trust of readers. Last but not least Pathos, it gives emotions and sympathetic imagination. It makes the reader think in the same way as the writer. I think it’s most important part as the reader starts thinking like the writer. In this article, the writer is using logos to explain why she think that “San Francisco gives equal chance for the job to everyone” and she explain about “ban the box” law also gives the reason.
The Manly Art tells the story of boxing 's origins and the sport 's place in American culture. The book was first published in 1986, the book helped shape the ways historians write about American sport and culture, expanding scholarly boundaries by exploring masculinity as an historical subject and by suggesting that social categories like gender, class, and ethnicity can be understood only in relation to each other. In 2010 it was republished and features a new afterword, the author 's meditation on the ways in which studies of sport, gender, and popular culture have changed in the quarter century since the book was first published. An up-to-date bibliography ensures that The Manly Art will remain a vital resource for a new generation.

His ethos is then seen by the pictures; he’s supporting his knowledge of how the toy works by physically showing how the robot transforms into an airplane. McCloud then exemplifies how as we age, we use less and less pictures in our reading (McCloud 740). But he explains that this idea is flawed, and that the combination of words and pictures “have great powers to tell stories…”(McCloud 741). McCloud then goes on to divide the different ways that pictures and words are used in graphic novels. In Word Specific combinations the “pictures illustrate, but don’t significantly add to a largely complete text.”
Ray Bradbury wrote a variety of short science fiction stories and added them together to make an overall collection titled The Illustrated Man. The Illustrated Man has stories that all take place in the futuristic, Dystopian America. The overall theme of this novel is accepting one’s fate. Narrowing down the overall theme, the stories of “The Last Night of the World”, “Marionettes, Inc.,” and “Kaleidoscope”, all share the common overall theme of looking back on life and seeing all the things one has done with their life, and the things one never got to do. While one is living, they don’t tend to look back on their life until they know it’s coming to an end.

When we were little our parents used to read books to us, and when we read for the first time, we read picture books. Now, you likely read books with little to no pictures, However they still can add a lot to a story such as more details and descriptiveness. That is exactly what Marjane Satrapi did while making Persepolis. During the story of Persepolis, Marjane 's use of images helps to convey her loss of innocence, the events of the revolution, and the Muslim religion. Revolution comes in many types, from changing who is the head of the house, to a Coup d 'état.
Images and text help challenge the reader to become more entwined with the story. Through his creation of the animals representing race and religion, Spiegelman uses the comic medium to make the racial discrimination more approachable to his audience. Helping the audience enter Vladek’s world shines light on his outsider status, showing what the comic genre is truly capable of. Same story with Bechdel and Fun Home. Bechdel uses the art of her drawings and words to bring the reader with her from her childhood to her adulthood; from her low points and chaos, to high points and acceptance of her true identity.
