Choose one of the social entrepreneurial ventures that is detailed on the Skoll Foundation website. Gray Ghost Ventures Provide the name of the organization or program, and what service they provide that benefits a particular group or community I chose Gray Ghost Ventures because I am very interested in the concept of micro financing ever since I heard about in a UoPeople Discussion Forum. Gray Ghost Ventures was a pioneer in this space and has helped invest millions of dollars into low income communities. What Gray Ghost does is they invest in communication technologies in emerging markets. They help to establish, “…operating companies, ecosystem development and capacity building” (Gray Ghost Ventures, 2018). I think choosing to invest in communication is a smart decision and great for social causes because it …show more content…
So if I were to start an affordable private school in my community I would need to first identify all the stakeholders. Besides myself a large stakeholder would be local businesses because they are the ones who will be employing the youngsters once they graduate. The next group of stakeholders is the local government who may facilitate our program with tax dollars. The last and largest stakeholder is the parents and children who will be given a better chance at success in a better school. As we learned from Ghost Ventures, financing is generally the largest problem. So after determining the costs of this school I would seek investments from local businesses because they are stakeholders and may want to invest money in a social cause that helps them out in the long run. I also think it would be necessary to work with local government to understand if there are funds available from them. Hopefully at this point I have enough money secured so that low-income families are not burdened with having to pay much

The Graveyard Book Theme The theme of the text, The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman is that fate and free will are apart of life and we need to embrace them. Neil Gaiman weaves this throughout his novel by showing how Bod is destined to fight the Jacks. The 1854 cholera outbreak was potentially one of the worst epidemics London has seen in its recent history, having eliminated around seven hundred people in just two weeks. In book The Ghost Map, Steven Johnson tells a thought-provoking tale about two different men who approached the spread of a microscopic bacterium in a growing urban city, and how their actions had changed the world. This particular cholera outbreak that swept through Broad Street in Soho district of London in 1854 led to the invention of modern life because it ultimately resulted in the transition from superstition to medical and scientific reasoning, the advances in modern epidemiology and the refurbishment of city infrastructures. John Snow’s role in the combat against the cholera outbreak brought medical and scientific reasoning into light. In the past, people widely believed in superstitions such as the

Communication is one of the most important aspects of human life. Without communication, we would be a primitive society of wild animals, unable to cooperate and achieve great feats, such as building the Pyramids, landing on the Moon, or organizing a democracy. All people rely on communication to express ideas that motivate positive societal and political change. Yet not everybody communicates in the same way. There are several thousand languages that people speak; there are several hundred thousand people around the world that suffer from disabilities such and blindness or deafness that require special means of communications such as braille or sign language.
The collection of short stories “Ashputtle or The Mother’s Ghost: three versions of one story” has been taken from the book American Ghosts and Old World Wonders written by the Canadian feminist writer Angela Carter in 1987. Carter, known for her use of irony when writing her feminist stories so as to criticise the patriarchal society, confessed some years ago her interest in rewriting fairytales “I don’t mind being called a spell-binder. Telling stories is a perfectly honourable thing to do ... I do find imagery of fairytales very seductive and capable of innumerable interpretations” (Haffenden, 1985: 82). By making this statement, the writer clarifies her interest in retelling old fairytales using their plot to create a new story.
In the play of Henrik Ibsen’s drama Ghosts, as well as in Amalie Skram’s short story Karen’s Christmas there is strong ridicule of the societal norms in late nineteenth century Scandinavia. In-depth reading of these texts display scorn for the way Scandinavia as a culture, during this time period, behaved and their ideals. These ideals have been developed through a history of social, political and economic change in Scandinavia, and the message from both authors is one highlighting the problems of societal norms and providing progressive ideas. Ghosts is a story of the past generations and their problems being past down. The characters in the play are selfish and the tragedy at the end of the story is one sealed by societies failures.
