Introduction
Climate change detrimental has had a detrimental impact on the United States response to climate change. In an area when we are at an important juncture in how we respond to this growing threat, there are people within the government who openly debate the credibility of the global warming. This is especially concerning when one of them is the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee Charmin, Senator James Inhofe. Senator Inhofe has published a book initialed The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future, and openly speaks out against the reality’s climate change facing the US (Kluger, 2015, n.p.). Because of this there is not only a need to explain what these changes may look like, but also what is the cause. This assessment aims to establish this with the intent of utilizing the information to guide public policies (Melillo, Richmond, & Yohe, 2014, p. i). This processes begins with an education on the mechanics of climate change, specifically, what is happening and why. Despite those who may disagree, evidence has clearly shown that the global warming of the past 50 years is a result of human actions (Melillo, Richmond, & Yohe, 2014, p. 12). Instead the collective actions of burning fossil fuels for energy, increased agricultural activity, and deforestation are resulting in increased levels of green house gasses. We know this because these gasses have been measured and the increases have been observed (Melillo, Richmond, & Yohe, 2014, p. 28). Although there has been an effort to reduce emissions, there are still many sources of these types of gasses. It is because of the sources and the likelihood that it will take some time before they are replaces, that temperatures are projected to continue to increase into the end of the century (Melillo, Richmond, & Yohe, 2014, p. 28). The Union of Concerned Scientists, states that global warming will have “significantly significant and costly effects on our communities, our health, and our climate” (n.d., n.p.). We are connected to our environment in many ways that may not be apparent to the individual and this assessment draws significant conclusions that support the threat. This includes large-scale impacts such as increasingly more dangerous storms to the potential public health threat as disses carrying insect are able to spread into warmer areas (Melillo, Richmond, & Yohe, 2014, p. 38).
