Nearly all governments are used in different parts of the world today, many of these originated in ancient Greece. The Greeks had many different governments to begin with because mountains separated each city. They were forced to make different governments because of this. These would eventually go on to form the Greek empire.
Democracy
A democracy is a very successful form of government; it is used in many countries today including the United States. There are two different types of Democracy, a direct democracy and a representative democracy. Most countries today have a representative democracy because it is much easier to have the people to vote for someone that has the same ideas. Most monarchs are not elected and get their responsibilities from their parents. In an absolute monarchy the monarch makes all of the laws and controls everything. In this kind of monarchy, the people have very little to no power. In a constitutional monarchy the government is usually a democracy and has a constitution, with the monarch as head of state. In this type of government, the elected government holds all of the power and the royal family is more of a tradition.
Oligarchy
An oligarchy is a government that is ruled by a small group of people. These people are usually very wealthy and use their wealth to become powerful. One way they do this is by using money to influence elections and decisions. They will use their money to gain power. This group of people will meet every so often and discuss matters. These people will almost always come into power through wealth. Oligarchies were not as common as monarchies in the ancient world.
Aristocracy
An aristocracy is a government ruled by a special class of noble people. They are usually connected by blood to royal families. An aristocracy is seen as a refined version of an oligarchy. This is not as popular as an oligarchy. This was the least popular in ancient
