College Essay Topic C Throughout high school, I have been involved in many different organizations that have made a huge impact in my life. Out of all of them, I can say that two of those have not only impacted my life but have made me a better student and an all-around hardworking person. Both swimming and band has taught me that no matter what you do in life, as long as you believe and work hard, you will get through anything that life throws at you. Joining my high school’s marching band is probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Over the past six years, I have become very passionate about music to where I have made it my biggest goal to become a high school band director.
I put in as much effort as I can when it comes to practicing at home, training in class, or even when I'm doing leadership every Saturday. At school, I also try to do my best. There are a few reasons why professionalism is important to the corps; for example, you must be always tact, showing initiative, and by knowing yourself and seeking self-improvement. These are few reasons to why professionalism is very important to the Marine Corps. One of the key parts to being professional is being always tactful. That being said times for being tactful or when you are dealing with difficult issues and knowing how to handle them. So the definition of tact is having the skill and sensitivity in dealing with others or with difficult issues.
As a candidate of National Honor Society, I possess the qualities as it will include leadership and character. I have taken the most difficult honor courses since the beginning of highschool and still maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout. Also, I have joined clubs to expand my knowledge of certain areas, which include DECA and Spanish Club. To add, I have been to two competitions, including this year 's Academic Team. Furthermore, I lead some of my classes, teaching them how do some of the work while having patience and confidence as I help them.
I have always been the type of person to try to take on too much and let one aspect of my life suffer, which usually ends up being “me time.” Although I have improved so far during my college career, I have occasionally struggled with leaving work issues at work and not dwelling on them at home. I know that in order to avoid burnout and be a successful social worker, self-care is crucial. It is something that I strive to do more of as I approach the beginning of my professional career. Marching band has impacted me most out of all my extracurricular activities. Through marching band I have matured mentally and emotionally into a leader. As Head Drum Major, I am responsible for the 130 member band. I lead daily rehearsals by conducting, commanding, and constructively critiquing the band. My other regular duties include assisting with extracurricular rehearsals on Tuesday and Thursday nights, and managing the band during competitions and football games.
I have a passion for working with children in my future career. I have been a camp counselor the past two summers and it has provided me an opportunity to further my leadership abilities. Therefore, other leadership positions I have had was being a freshman connection mentor, leader for the children’s ministry at college church, junior high mentor for Youth for Christ, leader for the WRL council, and many others. I believe this semester I have balanced my school work, friends, family, and other things as well and I have continue to be very successful. I believe I am a hard working student and I do not like to give up on things easily.
These favorite memories include the James Madison Parade of Champions, my favorite band competition, and the band banquets where everyone comes together and has a great time reflecting on the past year. However, the band concerts are something that I will miss greatly. Working on two to three pieces of music for a couple of months sounds tedious. But after practicing and refining it, we always have it perfect by the end of the concert. Feeling this sense of accomplishment is very satisfying.
That is what grit is. Grit is a good thing. It teaches people how to work hard and make that goal they really want. Yes grit has come with a lot of wrong ends but with every wrong there is a right and grit can be change. Grit is not something you teach but something you show.
The Greatness in Grit There are many important human traits but I am only going to be talking about one that one trait is grit. Grit is a strong trait that some people have and other people don’t it is not something that can be taught it is something that must always be there and most people have some amount of grit big or small it always makes a difference in their character and their integrity. Grit is strength and courage it is the ability to stand up to a bully or stand up for your beliefs or the beliefs of other people and the ability to keep going when everyone else gives up It is the ability to go past your comfort zone and to stop being mediocre or normal and to never give up and to push past the breaking point even when it feels
I would like to start off by saying thank you for considering me for the National Honors Society. It has been a desire of mine since I started high school to be in the National Honors Society. School is my main focus. Last year my grade point average was about a 3.7 and with this school year, I am going to work hard to raise it. I am in band, FCCLA, and Trend.
I would be a good fit in the Roger Williams University Honors program for a multitude of reasons. I obtain the qualities of someone who is ready to become a leader, as well as the best version of myself possible.I have participated in multiple activities, clubs, and service projects throughout my life. A few qualities that make me a suitable candidate would be, my motivation, dependability, and ability to put others before myself. During my four years at Sandwich High School, I was involved in numerous clubs and activities. This can be shown on my application;however, that list does not show the impact it had on me.
I will help motivate my peers to take on more community and school service projects. I am not afraid to break out of my comfort zone to benefit those around me. The past two years I have worked to come out of my comfort zone and try new things. This lead me to many clubs and extracurricular activities that I know enjoy. For example, I am an active member of the FPC band.
