Gross National Happiness and Socio-Economic Development. Gross National Happiness philosophy is directly related to the country’s development in Bhutan. It is at times challenging to discuss Gross National Happiness within the framework of politics, policy-making and our daily lives as one may choose to see it as philosophy and not a practically applicable. However, there are strong scientific data that supports Gross National Happiness toward political consideration and debate for some policy-making. Semantically, Gross National Happiness (GNH hereafter) is a concept that is related to qualitative happiness. However, in Bhutanese context the concept is proportionally related to the socio-economic developmental philosophy of the country. Unlike in most of the western nations, the socio-economic status of the country is based on the measure of GNH than Gross Domestic Product. Emphasizing on the professional quality of livelihood of the citizens GNH for Bhutan can also be understood as the guiding principle of the country that predetermines the range of the development within its framework in line with the provision of the five year plan. Since its infusion in the country during the monarchial reign of fourth King (1972-2007), GNH in Bhutan has flourished to almost all parts of the country in dimensional affairs of development. One of the obvious senses of the concept of GNH in Bhutan is that people in most of the cases have the notion to state it as a philosophical concept
