METHODOLOGY: Grounded Theory Approach Grounded theory approach involves the progressive identification and integration of categories of meaning from data. It aims to provide an explanatory framework with which to understand the phenomenon under investigation (Charmaz, 2006). A qualitative method of inquiry will be employed that looks systematically at qualitative data aiming at the generation of theory that accounts for a pattern of behavior that is relevant and problematic for those involved (Tavakol, Torabi, & Zeinaloo, 2006). Research Problems: In a grounded theory, inquirers state research questions, not objectives nor hypothesis. Questions should be flexible and broad to enable a systematic inquiry to be conducted of all aspects of a phenomenon in depth. The following questions will be answered: (1) what is the participants’ concepts about inclusive education? (2) How do participants will be involved in inclusive education? (3) How will inclusive education practiced? (4) What is the participants’ thinking on how inclusive education affects the children mentally and physically? The identification of challenges in IE practice in a developing country like the Philippines using a grounded approach aids stakeholders in the facilitation and implementation of IE. Furthermore, the insights from this study shall aid and help parents of children with physical and mental disability in identifying issues that hinder learning opportunities for their children; as well as giving a picture of the current state of IE in the Philippines.
