Groundwater Pollution
What exactly is it?
It is basically the water underneath the earth surface which can be found in the soil or in the pores of the rocks. It is the main drinking resource and, therefore, its good condition is of vital importance to our health. Nevertheless, it has become a part of our nature to place profit and any pecuniary resources on the first place forgetting about what is wholesome and what is not. Once certain dangerous elements find their way underground they appear in the liquid we use as a source of drinking.
How does contamination happen?
It occurs in different manners. Firstly, when the rain establishes contact with the soil in which there are hazardous substances present, the underground drinkable fluids qulity is influenced. The contamination

If the environmental conditions are unfavorable or there are different pests, thousands of decars planted with crops may be destroyed. This induces huge pecuniary losses and may even lead to starvation in certain areas. In order to prevent themselves and ensure prolific and safe harvest, we have found various solutions. Scientists have invented pest-destroying substances such as the so-called pesticides or herbicides. Indeed, they keep the scourge away but they can backfire. That is so because when the different pesticides find their way to the ground water, they cause contamination so strong that lives may be claimed. The injurious substances used to protect plants are proven to cause multiple malignancies or other health damages. The environment also takes the consequences of this dangerous chemical use.
DDT and HCB are pesticides which degrade at an extremely slow rate. They have the tendency to get into contact with other species and harm them with their poisonous constituents. Having been done, this interferes with the proper functioning of the ecosystem and leads to unimagined consequences for the ecological
2.21 PESTICIDES Manahan (19..) discusses pesticides as water pollutants. DDT was introduced after World War II which accelerated pesticide use. Manahan (19..) states that by the mid-1990s agricultural use of pesticides was over 300 million kg per year and millions more kg of pesticides were used in non-agricultural applications. Manahan: Insecticides such as diazinon, carbaryl and chlorpyifos are most commonly found in water.
There is always opposition to pesticides because of the harm that it can cause on the environment and the animals alike. Pesticides though have saved a lot of hard work for farmers over the past couple of decades because it does all the dirty work, for example, the killing of weeds and other pests. Pesticides have also saved a lot of money for farmers by preventing pests from damaging crops or taking the nutrients and water supply away from crops. (Whitford, 7) In the future we need to start to find less toxic ways to prevent pests from attacking the crops and vegetation. This would prevent a lot of the other costs associated with pesticides for example, health costs for farmers that are exposed to the toxic chemicals or the killing of the habitats in the surrounding areas.
Drinking contaminated water can cause different types of cancers and also infertility and birth defects due to of the presence hazardous chemicals. Impoundments that have not been built or properly closed off have led to the death of many animals and also health issues in
But, they are valuable when it comes to the relationship of human needs and desires. Example to this is explained with the example of penguins, where DDT was damaging penguins. Many crops were also sprayed with this pesticide so it was damaging animals and human’s nutrition and thus we were getting crops for cheaper. But after looking at this problem, DDT pesticide was being stopped and was replaced with another one.
The negative effects include destruction of what is natural in the physical world and the ethical debate that questions “how far is too
The poisons such as DDT have the greatest affect on organisms at the top of food chains . for example , the white tailed eagle would have a greater concentration of DDT in its body than fish it feeds on . Top of the food chain large concentrations of DDT may kill organisms , decline its immune system , cause deformities , or damage its ability to reproduce . DDT can also weaken the shells of bird eggs. When eggs break too soon , bird embryos die .
On the other hand, pesticides are not a good idea because, they are in the food we eat and water we drink. These Pesticides are hurting tens of thousands of animals and humans each and every day and we don´t even realize it either. Pesticides are in everything they are in the food we eat and the air we breath and even in the water we drink. Also, does it ever make you wander is the food we eat safe and the other the things that pesticides effect that affect are they really safe for me to be eating or even drinking. While, you still stuck on that kind of problem you will not belive what else they hurt are honey bees and the honey we eat.
Natural resources such as minerals and precious metals are commodities, sold by those who own land in which they are mined or extracted. Gold a precious metal that has held high monetary value for centuries and has been the means of attaining great wealth and forming great empires. Water, a natural resource has a very different value, that of sustaining life. It is a commodity like other natural resources, to the landowner, in which it is sourced. Water sources are managed by individuals and by the state (government).
In the first chapter of “Living Downstream” by Sandra Steingraber discussed about personal experiences living in Illinois and discovering how much the landscape has changed over the years. In addition to the changing landscape, cancer, especially breast cancer, has increased in the prairies of Illinois and pesticides usage may cause. Much of the discussion first begin with the change of landscape as the prairies of Illinois has become a place for farming and pesticides. As farming became an important aspect of Illinois, pesticides were created to remove any bugs or insects from the product that is being farmed. A few pesticides formulas that came to be are atrazine, dichloro diphenyl trichloroethane (DDT), and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).
In turn, this causes serious health implications. This paper focuses on the social, economic and environmental conditions such as the impacts
This act has a lot of cause and effects. Removing trees leaves animals with no place
Jeri Ward Professor Lyn Froehlich English 1101 30 September 2015 Pesticides and the Death of Pollinators Our world as we know it may not exist in the near future. Right now, pesticides are eradicating pollinators by the thousands. These essential organisms are the major way that plants are able to reproduce. If pollinators are eliminated, the earth will lose a significant amount of vegetation, resulting in a considerable deficit of oxygen and precipitation.
Intro: Water pollution has caused so many problems to our waterways that no one really knows how to help. Water pollution caused; dead zones, oil spills, garbage floating around, and unsafe drinking water. People disagree about water pollution because, people have found ways to improve and help out the problem that water pollution has caused around the world. Others believe that that water pollution has created situations and are in the process of figuring out solutions. Marine life habitats are getting destroyed, marine life is declining everyday, how and where the garbage is getting into the oceans, and the drinking water is becoming seriously unsafe to drink.
Pesticides likewise are utilized to execute life forms that can result in infections. Most pesticides contain chemicals that can be destructive to
LITERATURE REVIEW What is water pollution? As the country is becoming more and more populated, the demands for social services have increased significantly. This has led to an increase of the pollution in many developing towns such as Ga-kgapane. The most disturbing and problematic forms of pollution in Ga-kgapane is the pollution of the natural streams. Water pollution is when there is a build of one or more substances in water to such an extent that it causes problems for animals or plants.
