The group presentation started with the Lynn, the facilitator, who began by building rapport with the participants by thanking everyone for coming and participation. Lynn, the facilitator set the ground rules by educating the group members about confidentially, and the establishing of a safe environment. Lynn also emphasis the important of speaking of one personal experience and not others. After the ground rules were done by Lynn she gave the group members the opportunity to add any other rules they think were important to them. This gave them a sense of empowerment. For example, when Lynn divided the group into two groups of threes and each group member had a minute to introduce themselves to each other, it was interested to observe that Lynn as the facilitator use the icebreaker activity as one way to look at diversity and how it impacted each member of the group. However, from my observation it look as if most of the members were acculturated into the American culture. Therefore, they were very vocal, impartial and educated. Members and facilitator handles indifference with respect which promotes high participation among each members, each had equally saying within the group. The facilitator was very knowledgeable of the subject matter and had excellent leadership skill. For example of some of the leadership skills the facilitator illustrated were encouraging participation. This was done by avoiding leading the group but allowing the members to express themselves freely, but only make suggestion or ask questions that are open and broad when necessary. The group was for registered sex offenders. The session was an example of a counseling group, which emphasizes improvement of interpersonal relationships and intrapersonal growth through the help of a group. T’Keyah used the skills of a democratic type leader, she was group centered, cooperated, collaborated, and shared responsibilities among the group. Group leadership skills that T’Keyah used throughout the session included active listening, clarifying, summarizing, supporting, empathizing, and giving feedback. T’Keyah also used the strengths approach during session.

In early in her speech, she explained that in the beginning of her career of being a journalists, she was accused for being biased and giving wrong information out. When she started to question herself on the situation, she realized why fake news was a huge problem. Her admitting to being accused this gave her a little more credibility. As the GEH 1010 group presentation dealt with multiple themes of sustainability and social justice, the presentation was divided to answer to two key questions. One group focused on “Is the way we feed on animals leading to a sustainable world?” and the other is “Should social justice include justice for nonhumans?” Personally, our group addresses the second question on social justice for nonhumans. My assignment for the writing 101 group project was to present how to conduct an interview. The information for this presentation came from The Curious Researcher by Bruce Ballinger. My group consisted of five people, we all would present this topic together.
