In group three, we are a very humorous bunch and we always had a lot of fun in our meetings. We first came together in mid-September in our group discussion class. We were assigned to a group and tasked to come up with a project. My group all agreed that a student problem would be what we wanted to tackle, spreading awareness about STDs/STIs on campus and to promote the practice of safe sex. We held all our meetings at Folsom Lake College in the library or in the classroom and we were usually provided with time, at least once a week, to talk about where we were at and things we needed to accomplish. This group has really changed my perception of group projects because we actually turned into a collaborative group, one that has a high concern …show more content…
“This initial group meeting period holds some uneasiness, tension, and awkwardness,” (Harris and Sherblom, 58) as stated in our textbook is completely true. When we first met in our group, it was pretty awkward and I know we were all trying to be on our best behavior in order to impress each other. “Humor can be used to release some of these tensions and feelings,” (Harris and Sherblom, 58) also stated in our textbook, describes my group completely, we are always joking around and it started right at the beginning as a way to break the ice and it worked. We all found that we have something in common, a great sense of humor and that was evident through the whole semester, allowing us few opportunities for conflict with one another. “A supportive group climate promotes productivity and member satisfaction, which in turn reduces stress. In contrast, a defensive climate is unproductive for any group.” (Harris and Sherblom, 175) I believe that it should be evident that our team turned out to be extremely supportive of one another by showing empathy and equality because we really were a team that looked out for one another. I can only recall one time where one member was acting in a defensive-controlling way. It was when we divided up the chapters to summarize among the members and we then uploaded them to the Google Drive. Well, one member didn’t have a book and the person who created the Google Drive file, didn’t invite him to be able to view it because they felt, if they weren’t going to contribute, then they shouldn’t be able to see the other notes that everyone else did. My only issue with how this was handled was the fact that the member didn’t ever say they weren’t going to do the assigned chapter while the facilitator jumped to the conclusion that he wouldn’t and therefore didn’t give him the opportunity to; all without talking to the
Every time that a group project is assigned I look everywhere in search of hardworking people, but unfortunately this is rare nowadays. I personally do not like working with a group of people, it is a waste of our time for a number of reasons. People are more dependent on one another and expect the job to be done for them without even trying. This affects the way we are now, things are not supposed to be easy and just magically be solved; it defeats the purpose of working together with each other and learning. I agree that more people can serve as a power source for more research, but it still isn’t sufficient enough for those who just act like fools and don’t get their work done; the one’s that are goofing around can distract the rest of the group members and convince them to join the dark

As you know, obviously, I am Violet. I go to Mountain View Preparatory in Cottonwood; I am writing to you as a part of Ms. McFarland’s Social Studies class. I enjoy math, history, and the universe, as well as reading. I love fantasy and science fiction, especially when relating to time travel and medieval worlds. I don’t know what I want to do in the future, to the point of being minorly depressing.
Group learning was imperative for my growth as an individual in a society where working with others is inevitable, and an essential ability. Knowing this, I am going to communicate this as much as I can to any students I encounter who are anti-group
As with any type of group work, disagreements are likely to surface; but that’s why I have experience managing large groups of people and dealing with problems and complicated ideas. If needed be, I will step up and make myself useful, whether it is in a classroom setting, a lab, or the workplace. I am also determined to work side-by-side with people who have the same fascination with academics and who want to see the same change in the world as I do; but first, I have to start by graduating from
One of my classes my first at NC State demonstrated this. In COS 100 there is a semester long group project. Having partners who care about their education was a welcome change of pace from previous experience and made the experience enjoyable. I experienced a similar situation in CH 101. Additionally, COS 100 makes the case that working together and communicating is the best way to advance the sciences.
Walking into an AA meeting most first timers are defensive in search for all reasons they can gather to prove they don’t belong there. Whether you are an alcoholic or not these meetings open up your perspectives on a whole array of subjects. I didn’t exactly have a certain expectation on how the meeting would be like, however I didn’t think a majority would be as involved as they were. The meeting had an environment that made it safe to share and to connect with one another. As well throughout the duration of the session the lights were off, which added to the feeling of privacy in the sense that no one felt they were being spoken to directly.
However, a major issue that came up during the process within the storming stage and that was ultimately resolved in the norming stage occurred when I noticed that sections of the paper were copied and pasted from one of our resources but without proper documentation. In an effort to not place unnecessary blame on my group members, I made a note in our draft for whoever wrote the section to review and make the necessary changes to what I assumed as a simple mistake. However, in the final copy the plagiarism was still there. MO and I were able to make proper edits before the due date and instead of creating conflict when Megan did not take responsibility for the error we addressed the issue by creating a communication plan. Our plan was to leave notes and highlight sections of the paper if we copied quotations from other sources but needed to appropriately incorporate into the paper and make
Group Reflection Elements of Yalom’s therapeutic factors were apparent over the course of the semester while experiencing and conducting our breakout groups. Yalom refers to 11 therapeutic factors in the practice of successful group therapy with them being: installation of hope, universality, imparting information, altruism, corrective recapitulation of primary family, development of socializing techniques, imitative behavior, interpersonal learning, group cohesiveness, catharsis, existential factors. Below, will be a reflection of my experience in the group over the course of the semester. Group Cohesiveness Of the 11 factors, group cohesiveness or the warmth of the group in which everyone felt that they belonged was readily apparent at the
Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) is a renowned role-playing, problem-solving group strategy tabletop game. Unlike traditional board or card games, each round of D&D is distinctive in that it centers around players whose decisions shape and determine its outcome. Participants create fictional personas with unique backgrounds and traits who embark on a fantastical adventure as a group. The mythical party of characters then works together to face obstacles and achieve its goals as outlined and masterminded by the Dungeon Master. Throughout this process, the participants collaborate and negotiate with one another while critical thinking through predicaments and overcoming challenges making it an overall effective tool for group therapy.
My small group experience was back in Secondary School where I was part of my school’s National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) Cadet Leaders’ committee. The group lasted for approximately two years. Within the two years, we have meetings every fortnightly. This committee is a task group in which all members worked together to carry out activities for the school’s NPCC unit. The Cadet Leaders’ committee comprises of 10 members.
Introduction After the Advanced Skills Facilitation course, I had learned many counselling skills in group counselling and different settings of group counselling. Also, it provided a lot of exercises for us to practice group counselling sessions. Thus, there are many things that I can make a reflection on it.
According to (Corey, Corey & Corey, 2010) if group facilitators are prepared, they are more likely to be able to effectively open up members for a meaningful group experience. We agreed that I would open the group and my colleague would close the group. In addition, we would share and support each other for the time in between. Our aim was to have equal
In society today, communication classes are highly over looked because of our new developing technology. People don’t realize how much a communication class could benefit them. We have lost sight of verbal communication skills. This class has taught me to put my phone down and communicate with others. It has opened my eyes to the real world without technology.
