GSK is still using a less effective and less user friendly MRP system for material planning. An ERP System can be implemented. Sales forecast is prepared manually and sends and EXCEL generated document to Planning department. This can be corrected by using the ERP system where sales forecast be entered and updated where necessary and planning division may easily access to the changes made to the forecast in generating the production requirement. Most of the Employees are working at GSK for 20 to 30 years and when new things come they believe it would change their normal routine and would affect their jobs.
• Less commitment of employees- lack of knowledge regarding quality and other statistical tools. So they are not committed.
• Knowledge level variation- Knowledge level of employees to employee varies and it is hard to implement as getting involvement of those are difficult.
• Time consuming-It may take time to get expected results by implementing lean principles and sigma strategies and also to implement new practices which involve a lot of thinking behind it.
Impact of Resource Wastage to GSK can be identified due to above reasons,
Cost of re-process- Additional man hours to re-process, incur additional cost for over time, purchasing cost for rejected/ Damaged items and other utility expenses.
• Decrease plant performance- would affect the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Availability rate and Quality rate.
• Increase of raw and packing material cost- Purchasing cost cannot be recovered as those materials are not being used to
