Abstract: A thin film of guar gum modified with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was prepared with tamarind seed kernel powder (TKP) by condensation polymerization method. In this method a redox pair of ascorbic acid and potassium persulphate was used. This initiate the reaction and poly vinyl alcohol grafted over guar gum. TKP was added by changing temperature and a thin film was prepared. Characteristics of newly synthesized film was determined by

Tamarind seed kernel powder, Ethanol, Methanol, sodium hydroxide (1%), ammonium hydroxide (5N) were used.
2.2 Method
2.2.1 Synthesis of poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) grafted (-g-) guar gum
For the grafting process, guar gum(2gm) equal amount of ascorbic acid and PVA were added in 250ml of distil water. The mixture was heated at 35͘͘͘͘.c for 30 minutes and then potassium persulphate13 was added as initiator. Allowed this mixture to rest for one hour for grafting. Now pour this mixture into large quantity of dimethyl formamide(DMF) to separate PVA-g-guar gum from the solution and wash with DMF.
2.2.2 Saponification of PVA-g- guar gum
The grafted guar gum was saponified with 1% solution of sodium hydroxide and heated to the boiling for for one hour. This saponified guar gum separated with the help of methanol and washed with ethanol.14
2.2.3 Preparation of TKP composite with PVA-g-guar gum
Saponified guar gums dissolved in distil water and 10ml ethanol. In another beaker TKP dissolved in 5N ammonium hydroxide. Mix both the mixture and stirred at room temperature for 18-20 hours. Mixture was heated at different temperature (30-100͘͘͘.c) so that mixture became viscous. Then the film was prepared and dried

We are doing a gummy bear lab. Gummy bears come in different sizes, shapes, and colors. Gummy bears are squishy, chewy, and sticky, they are made of sugar which are glucose and glucose are carbohydrate. We predict that during this stage of lab the solute and solvent will go through the stages of hypertonic, hypotonic and isotonic. We get 4 gummy bears and 4 cups filled half way with different types of liquid, such as Salt-Water, Coffee-Creamer, Vinegar, and Soda.
In this experiment, we observed the relationship between the number of domatia, the number of mites and the size of leaves of water oaks (Quercus nigra L.) and sweet gum (Liquidambar styraciflua). Domatia are small chambers often located on the lower surface of leaves that serve as homes for predaceous mites. In return, the mites protect the plant from herbivory and pathogen attack. This type of interaction between plants and mites is a form of mutualism, more specifically facultative mutualism. Mutualism is an interaction between individuals of different species in which both species benefit.
Natural product and its derivatives have been recognized as therapeutic agents (Lahlou, 2013). Due to adverse effects from modern medicine and synthetic product, there is increase interest on discovering alternative natural product as therapeutic agent and become alternative for modern medicine since natural product has lesser adverse
The following lab period the solid was weighed (0.0483 g) and percent yield was calculated (65.5%) with the limiting reagent being tetraphenylcyclopentadienone. The melting point was determined. The first melting point was 204-204.9 °C and the second melting point was 215.6-215.9°C. Finally, an infrared spectroscopy was obtained for the

Vacuum filtration was performed on the crude product, then it was recrystallized for purification. Melting point analysis was conducted on the recrystallized product to determine its identity. 3. The three possible mechanisms in this experiment were syn-addition
The gummy bear's mass and volume will increase while the density of the gummy bear would decrease after it is put into water overnight. (#)This lab experimented to figure out wah changes would take to the gummy bear’s mass, volume, and density after sitting in a cup of water overnight. To do this the gummy bear's dimensions and weight was taken on the first day, along with its density and then the gummy bear was placed and water. When the gummy bear was taken out of the water on day two, the dimensions, weight, and density were taken again, and the difference between the two days was found. (#1)
The purpose of this experiment was to observe the relationship between different solutions and their effect on the mass and length of a gummy bear. Gummy bears with the same relative size and colour were placed in 50 mL beakers with the same amount of their designated liquid. The different solutions studied were water, oil, vinegar, a simple sugar solution, and rubbing alcohol. In the end, based on the observations made, the majority of the hypotheses created were not proven to be correct.
Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to investigate the movement of water into and out of a polymer. Hypotheses: • If Gummi Bears are submerged in tap water and distilled water, they will expand due to osmosis in order to create equilibrium in hypotonic solution • If Gummi Bears are submerged in salt water, they will decrease inside to create equilibrium in a hypertonic solution Materials: • 2 Gummi Bears • 2 plastic 8oz cups • 2 forks • Distilled water • Centimeter rule • Saturated salt solution • Paper towels • Electric scale • Permanent marker Procedures: 1. Obtain two plastic cups and two different color bears. 2.
PALLADIUM-CATALYZED CROSS COUPLING REACTION IN ORGANIC SYNTHESIS The formation of new carbon-carbon bonds is of central importance in organic chemistry and a prerequisite for all life on earth. Through the assembly of carbon atoms into chains, complex molecules, e.g. molecules of life, can be created. The importance of the synthesis of carbon-carbon bonds is reflected by the fact that Nobel Prizes in Chemistry have been given to this area many times: the Grignard reaction (1912), the Diels-Alder reaction (1950), the Wittig reaction (1979), and olefin metathesis to Y. Chauvin, R. H. Grubbs, and R. R. Schrock (2005) and Richard F. Heck , Ei-ichi Negishi, Akira Suzuki (2010) for the development of methods for palladium-catalyzed formation of carbon-carbon
In this experiment three gummy bears were put in different solutions to observe the effect of osmosis on them. The independent variable in this situation are the following types of water: tap, salt, and sugar. The dependent variable is the change in mass and volume from all three gummy bears. The gummy bear brand, the environment, and the amount of time in the solution are the constants of the experiment. After the experiment is competed, one can determine how the osmosis changes the gummy bears.
Industries that utilize ester compounds are the perfume industry and the flavoring industry for the smells that we smell while we wear perfume and eat things, respectively. Also glass industries use polyesters (like polymethyl acrylate, etcetera) to make glass. In the process of synthesizing an ester, it is important to include a strong acid. The concentrated acid in this experiment was sulfuric acid.
Properties of Substances Express Lab 1)The purpose of this lab was to compare the physical properties of different types of solids and how the properties of solids are determined by their intermolecular forces and their intramolecular bonds. Then we were to classify each type of solid as either ionic, metallic, non-polar molecular, polar molecular, or network. Paraffin wax classified as a non-polar molecular, Silicon dioxide was classifies as a network, Sodium chloride was classified as ionic, Sucrose was classified as polar molecular and Tin was classified as metallic. (2)The intermolecular forces that are present in Paraffin wax are dispersion forces, because it is non-polar and carries a negative charge. Followed by Sucrose that has

In most foods, microbial contaminations occur predominantly at the surface, meaning using edible films such as chitosan allows minimal space between the foods’ surface and its’ environment. However, the coating has weak mechanical properties, and is permeable for gas and water vapour. Blending chitosan with starch improves its mechanical properties and allows a better novel food preservative. ADVANTAGES: - As chitosan is the second most abundant carbohydrate after cellulose, it’s not unusual that its waste exceeds 25bn tonnes per year.
