When reflecting on choosing the first H. Preston Herring Scholarship recipient, in her husband honor, Ginny Herring recalls being drawn to Eric Schwartz and his life story. Several of the nominees would’ve been perfect but just kept coming back to Eric. Eric’s life story was compelling and really touched Ginny. Eric served his country, her had goals, was a non traditional aged student, and a true appreciation for a college education, and Ginny wanted to reward the struggled he had gone through. It was important to her that the scholarship given in her husband’s honor showed Eric that students like him were valued, and that his journey had not gone unnoticed.
It has, especially, helped with choosing a career and being prepared for my future. The scholarship will help further my interest in to a firefighting and emergency medical services career, and I believe I should receive this scholarship

I believe that I am qualified for this scholarship because of how much I have grown at Wendell Baptist Church. It has helped me grow in my walk with God through missions and through serving. It has helped me appreciate the little things in life like the slides during services on sunday morning. Showing me that the little things like that do not just happen and some people put a lot of work into making them happen. Wendell Baptist Church has also shown me just how great my life is and how the problems I think I have are actually not that big of a deal in the long run.
Attaining the Coolidge Scholarship will help me pay my way through college so that I won't have to struggle to pay loans after. I also have a dream. I want to be a successful woman married with four kids. I want to have my own happily ever after. Receiving the Coolidge Scholarship will play a massive role to make this dream of mine come true.
I am the best candidate for this scholarship because I have experienced a hard and unwanted event, but I have grown from it and become a better and stronger person because of my parents, which will help me power through college and become a civil lawyer. My mom and dad although divorced, have supported me through every event in my life, making me the person I am today. Living with my mom, I have learned how hard it really is to do things that my dad would have done in a heartbeat. As I grew up knowing that my dad was not coming back through the back door as I hoped, I learned how hard life really is and how life is not fair.
I still live in the same apartment that I grew up in, and, while my parents have tried to give me as much as possible, much of the expenses I have for school and living are money that I have made at my job. I am the first child in my family to graduate college, and in doing so I have inspired my younger brother who will soon by attending a four year university as well. Currently, my father works two jobs as a janitor and as a factory worker, and my mother cleans homes, and much of the financial compensation they receive goes towards paying rent and food. This scholarship will alleviate much of the financial burden that myself and my family members currently face.
I am determined to attend college no matter what, but this scholarship will allow me to peruse a four year university. I need this scholarship, because without it I will not be able to fulfill the tuition cost of a four year university. Now with the help of the Navigator I look forward continue my education, as well as start new

I was always jealous of others that were naturally outgoing, so I decided to make a change. I started by taking a student council class, which has truly pushed me to go outside of my comfort zone, and I've become a better leader because of it. In fact, a couple of weeks ago, I hosted a pep assembly in front of the entire school, and I actually enjoyed it a lot. I am now one of the most extroverted and friendly people you'd meet because I put in the time and effort to better myself. Now that you better understand who I am and what my goals are, I would like the opportunity to explain the many ways this scholarship will help me achieve my
Then dream bigger. Dream big and then dream bigger because Scholarship can be much more than just getting straight A's. By receiving this housing scholarship I will be able to further avoid student loan debt and I can focus on working towards a career instead of thinking about how to repay loans. By removing the housing financial barrier, this will make my educational and career goals easier to obtain. Having a scholarship that pays for your education and living expenses will mean more time for studying and learning, which can lead to better grades and retention of knowledge and increase your chances for continuing on to graduate school. As I begin my college education, I want to continue doing my best in order to accomplish my goal of becoming a registered nurse. With the scholarship money I can have the peace of mind of solemnly focusing on college. Students who have to work to continue their education have trouble focusing on school and do not have the extra time to study or go to tutoring sessions. In many cases, having to work while attending college usually leads to failing or dropping the class due to extra stress and the idea of income. As well, this scholarship will give me more time to focus on my education and to continue my volunteer work helping the
This scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for students of GVSU, and I am honored to be considered for this scholarship. I believe that I am a great applicant for this scholarship, and that I deserve this scholarship. One reason I deserve this scholarship is because of my strong academic courses. Throughout my high school career, I pushed myself academically by taking a total of 10 AP classes and 7 honors classes. These classes were all challenging, yet I pushed through with determination to complete the classes to the best of my ability.
