Adnan is guilty because Adnan’s motive to kill Hae was jealousy for the new boyfriend. In episode 7 of Serial, Sarah Koenig shared what the state had to say against Adnan; that he was “a mad ex-boyfriend”. Some friends said that Adnan was a very possessive boyfriend, to the point where (in one instance in episode 2 that was explained by Hae’s friend) Adnan came to her house and disturbed Hae’s time with this female friend of hers. “If she (Hae) was at my house, and we were having a girls night, he would stop by, like he would walk over and try to come hang out, and it’s just like, ‘Have some space!’” As Koenig continues to find the truth about Hae and Adnan’s relationship, she soon hears that other people saw their relationship like any other …show more content…
In his first interview, he stated that around a week before the murder, they spoke to each other for a while in Jay’s car smoking marijuana. Soon Adnan begins to call Hae names and adds how he’s going to “kill that bitch” for cheating on him. In a pit of rage and angst Jay said he assumed Adnan was just letting off some steam; not taking what Adnan said seriously. This conversation happened prior to the murder, so it would make sense if Adnan had a reason for being mad at Hae and jealous of the new boyfriend. Although, in later testimonies and interviews, Jay changes this part of his alibi in tons. In his second interview it presents that Adnan didn’t say anything about killing Hae until the day of the murder. At this point, it is unclear as to whether this change in the story can truly confirm Adnan’s motive to kill Hae. This is a tough and slippery slope to go down because of Jay’s inconsistencies, so it’s going to take a little more than just moxie to figure this one out. Considering that everyone who was questioned wasn’t asked until five weeks after the murder, so there’s no telling what little details were forgotten or were lies to truly clarify Adnan’s motive if no straight answer was given. Yet, this detail alone was enough for the state to use against Adnan to confirm Adnan’s motive to kill Hae and his jealousy for the new …show more content…
Adnan actually called Hae’s house the night before Hae disappeared. At 12:35 am Adnan called Hae’s three times, and it wasn’t until the third time where they actually talked. As Adnan explained to Koenig in episode 6, he was calling Hae to give her his new phone number, and she wrote it down in her diary. Yet, on the call logs after that night, both Hae’s phone number and pager didn’t showed up. Aisha on the other hand, Hae’s best friend, paged her nonstop, waited for a response from her. Krista was also paging her; as a matter of fact, the whole group of friends wondered where Hae was. And when Koenig mentions to Adnan how they dealt with all of this, he said it was never a thing where “whenever Hae comes up in a conversation I’m leaving, going to the other side of the classroom or something like that. I mean, I’m just as involved as they are, yeah so, I mean, I don’t, you know.” As much as Adnan says how much he was concerned for Hae, attempting to contact her but fails to prove so is quite strange, but most of all confirms Adnan’s lack of concern for
Adnan said he didn’t know what he did that day and that it felt like a normal day it being six weeks who couldn’t blame him. Except for the part of how could this be an ordinary day, Adnan claimed to be very close with Hae how would you not remember the day of her disappearance. This day should be engraved in your brain for awhile at least six weeks I would say. Adnan’s only claims was to be with Asia, Jay’s girlfriend and Hae’s friend at the time and she was nowhere to be found during the court hearings and investigation.
It is surprising to me how more DNA testing was not done on Hae’s body to see if this DNA matched, something that could determine Adnan’s
Adnan’s religion could have played a part to his and Hae’s break
Jay then had stated in his second testimony that he dropped off Adnan back at school at 12:30 after shopping with him at the mall where Adnan supposedly said that he would kill Hae. After dropping him off they met up at Best Buy where Jay saw Hae dead in the trunk. Jay also stated in another testimony that they met at Edmondson Avenue and then in another testimony, it was at a strip
Everyone that knew Adnan told Sarah Koenig that he was not the type of guy to hurt anyone, he was seen as the “golden child” and people could not possibly believe that he was capable any wrongdoing. Moreover, the young couple had many secrets which probably caused tension between them. A few days before Hae Min Lee’s disappearance Adnan purchased a cell phone. This cell phone would play a big part in this mystery because the evidence used from this phone is not
When Sarah says “ The state said Adnan was guilt-ridden about lying to his family about Hae “ ( Koenig “Serial” episode 2 ) This shows that Adnan had feelings about how he kept keeping his relationship a secret between his friends and family. Adnan being “ Guilt-ridden” could have caused him to be so frustrated it led to violence after the break up which could have also led to Hae’s death. Not only did he affect his relationship with Hae but with his parents who could have lost Adnan’s trust by not telling his parent also got him more frustrated to the limit to where there is violence. Another thing that may have got Adnan to be so violent was Adnan lying and feeling so guilty that he couldn’t take it
Episode 2 of the podcast Serial Becky claims to have witnessed Hae turning down Adnan 's request for a ride that day. Keisha claimed she saw Adnan and Hae talking with each other after school. Debbie claimed she saw both Adnan and Hae after school, separately. No one claims to have seen Adnan leave with Hae. No one saw Adnan get in Hae 's car.
Justin and Adnan, both in jail, and both are serving a sentence for a crime that the link is a witness who's trying to get a lesser punishment by testifying they were in it either by word or actually helping. The jury's first judgement, guilty. But now, 10 years later, they rethink whether they are guilty or innocent and if he is innocent. Did they ruin an innocent man's life? Justin Wolfe was "convicted of murder and sentenced to death."
This case has many strong pieces of evidence, which show that Adnan was not capable of killing Hae Min Lee. There was very little evidence found and the evidence can not prove Adnan to be guilty. Adnan was at school on the day Hae was killed. When she was found and analyzed it was determined
On January 13th, 1999 Hae Min Lee disappeared. Somewhere between 2:15 and 2:36 p.m. that day she was murdered. Four weeks later on February 9th, 1999 her body was found at Leakin Park. On February 28th, 1999 Adnan Masud Syed, Hae’s ex-boyfriend, was arrested and charged with first degree murder. However since his arrest Adnan has maintained his innocence and insists he had no involvement whatsoever in Hae Lee’s murder.
These people say that since Hae broke up with Adnan and that was enough reason to want her dead. However, Adnan was a smart kid who would realize that killing someone for breaking up with you is not a valid reason. Adnan was not hurt enough to kill Hae; he was devastated when she died and he didn't know about it when he was told. Also, they say that Adnan had enough time to kill Hae. What this opinion fails to take into account is that Asia saw Adnan at the library around the same time of the murder and she was never used in court as an alibi (Koenig, “The Best Defense is a Good Defense”).
On February 9th Haes' body was found in Leaken Park by a maintenance man. Her cause of death was ruled as manual strangulation. Adnans friends and family were all surprised when Adnan (Hae's ex boyfriend) was arrested for her murder. Everyone described their relationship as " a normal high school relationship. " The couple loved each other they had normal high school arguments but always made up and were back in love.
Adnan had his phone that night, proving he was in Leakin park probably burying Hae’s body. Adnan claimed he knew nothing about this murder; however, with his phone pinging in leakin confirms he was involved. The third call that verifies Adnan is guilty is the call to Nisha at 3:32. Nisha is a good friend of Adnan’s, but is who Jay barely knew (Koenig, “Route Talk”). If Jay barely knew Nisha this substantiates Adnan must’ve been with his cell phone at this time.
Putting these circumstances aside, it was said by many that the relationship was pretty typical and Adnan got over the breakup easily. This was said by teachers and friends of both Hae and Adnan. One of Hae’s friends, Becky, explained the relationship as “just a silly, teenage, high school, relationship” (Koenig “The Breakup”) which proves that Adnan was not as upset as the prosecution made him out to be at trial. Another notable aspect is that after Hae and Adnan broke up, Hae got in a small car accident and asked Adnan to come help her, her new boyfriend Don also showed up and confirms that him and Adnan had a cordial meeting and explains that they talked for 10 to 15 minutes even after the car situation had been figured out (Koenig “What We Know”). If Adnan was really that broken up about the breakup, he would not have been so friendly towards the new guy who seemed to take his place in Hae’s life.
This proves that Adnan was the one who killed her. Jay and Adnan both committed a serious crime. Adnan killed Hae with the help from
