In 1999, the city of Baltimore had more than 300 murders. Hae Min Lee is one of the 300 murdered that year. At just 18 years old, Hae Min Lee was strangled on January 13th, 1999 at 2:36 PM. At 2:00 PM Adnan Syed had asked Hae if she could give him a ride so they could “talk”, he then proceeded to strangle her. Around five hours later, Adnan and Jay buried her body in Leakin Park. Adnan was then found guilty of first degree murder and kidnapping on February 25th, 2000. He was sentenced to life in prison. Adnan is guilty. Why? After this, something in his mind triggered, sending violent thoughts towards her, and he ultimately decided to …show more content…
Adnan and Hae were in a romantic relationship. A serious, but very secretive relationship. Hae writes about their relationship in her diary quite often. In one entry, she says “ I like him, no I love him”(Ep. 2, Pg. 4), in another entry from prom night she says, “I swear he’s the sweetest guy[…] Now how can I not fall in love with this guy? Of course I gave him his first kiss on the lips, then I totally fell in love with him. Since then I keep on falling deeper and deeper in love with him.” (Ep. 2 Pg. 4) From these few entries in her diary it gives off the idea that their relationship is perfect, right? Wrong. It was not the perfect high school relationship everyone believed it to be. Adnan and Hae’s relationship was an on and off type of relationship. By Christmas time, they were officially broken up. The state argues that Adnan's motive for killing Hae was because of their break up, saying this was not a crime of pride or violence, but a crime of passion. With these details put together, it is very clear that Adnan’s motive for killing Hae is because of their tragic
Recently in a podcast called Serial narrated by Sarah Koenig brought up a complex case of a murder of a teenage girl in 1999. The podcast goes over information about the case and the possibility of the main suspect Adnan Syed of being innocent. In 1999 on January 13, Hae Min Lee was murdered by manual strangulation. Hae Min Lee’s ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed was found guilty 6 weeks later and has been serving time in prison ever since. The state found Adnan guilty, but I do not believe that he was the culprit.
On January 13, 1999, Hae Min Lee was reported missing and later found dead in Leakin park in Baltimore . Adnan Syed, Hae Min Lee’s ex boyfriend was convicted of the murder then sentenced to life on the charge of 1st degree murder. Jay Wilds was the witness for the trial that stated that Adnan had killed Hae, and both Adnan and himself had buried the body. Adnan’s lawyer for this trial was Christina Gutierrez who failed to use the only alibi for Adnan, Asia McClain, and go through DNA evidence on Hae. I believe Adnan Syed should be granted a second trial, because of the competence of his attorney.

I believe that the case should be reopened and there should be a retrial to prove Adnan’s innocence so that he gets the justice that he deserves. Adnan Masud Syed is American with Pakistani heritage.

A friend of Adnan, Jay, who graduated the spring prior from Woodlawn, is the only person with a timeline for the 13th of January and, unfortunately, it makes Adnan look guilty. But, with multiple inconsistencies and stories that do not match the other gathered evidence, Jay’s story is not perfect.
Two prime suspects are from your school, one her ex boyfriend and the other the ex’s friend. This became a reality in Woodlawn High School when Hae Min Lee, a senior, went missing on January 13. Nonetheless, supporters of Adnan haven’t stopped speculating on who actually holds the culpability. Relationships, lies, murder, conviction. These are all aspects that come into play when talking about the January 13th, 1999 murder of high school student Hae Min Lee. Adnan Syed, Hae’s 17-year-old ex-boyfriend was convicted of her murder in 2000.
