How to improve the efficiency and workflow of a cluster-based Haematology laboratory
Introduction The Hospital Authority manages lot of public hospitals and institutions, Specialist Out-patient Clinics and General Out-patient Clinics. To ensure that patients receive a high quality care within the same geographical setting. These are organized into seven hospital clusters based on locations. To earn the benefit of clustering, the provided services must be improved continuously. In a cluster-based Hematology Laboratory, there are several methods to improve the efficiency and workflow. They can be divided in to four aspects:
1. Staff Management
2. Techniques Improvement
3. Paperless Laboratory
4. Resources Management

Techniques improvement There are plenty of new laboratory products available every year, seeking to increase sample throughput and make protocols more efficient. To improve the efficiency and workflow of a clustered hematology laboratory, it should be kept an eye out for the new laboratory equipments or technologies. Theses allow laboratory have an enhancement in throughput and also the quality of laboratory tests. To improve the technology in laboratory, there are two main directions:
2.1 Automation
Automation is the use of instrument and specimen processing equipment to reduce the need for human work. The advantages of automation includes
1 Reduces the workload
2 Increases turnaround time (Saves time used per analysis)
3 Eliminates the errors due to human works
4 Improves reproducibility (repeatability)
5 Uses minimum amount of sample and reagent
6 Improve documentation
Automation can be applied into pre-analytical and analytical processes in haematology laboratory.
Pre-analytical processes:
1 Centrifuge
2 Sample sorting
3 Sample aliquot
4 Labeling
5 Capping and de-capping
Analytical processes:
1 Sample analysis (including repeat)
2 Dilution
3 Sample identification
4 Sample storage
2.2 Develop new technology to reduce traditional manual

Different laboratory in same clustered can perform same test with same model of instrument/reagent, same analytical / reporting criteria and also same procedures in test performing. This can reduce time and resources spent on routine activities especially in rotation. In addition, since more staff operates the same procedures, more feedback can be collected in improving workflow. The inventory of reagent can also be shared across laboratory so the of stock control can be highly maintained.
4.2 Improve laboratory design: Protecting the health and safety of laboratory must be the primary concern. However, safety has to be balanced with worker comfort. Comfort primarily is concerned with maintaining appropriate temperatures and air velocities. Worker productivity will suffer if the space is too warm or too cool. Convenience for staff is also a factor in worker comfort. For example, the inventory of reagent should near to the analyzers.
Conclusion: Improving the efficiency and workflows continues to be major challenge for a laboratory. The recommendation in this action plan can be a reference for laboratory to overcome this
Large farms, processing facilities, and factories are used by the industry with a variety of levels of security. There are often sanitation processes, good manufacturing processes, and hazard identification and control systems in place at processing facilities and factories. Even with these systems and processes in place, the overall facility or a single batch remain vulnerable. The highest risk comes from the employees either intentionally or unintentionally contaminating a batch of food. Testing is supposed to ensure the food is within specific allowances for contaminates, but the laboratory confirmation takes time that perishable items may not have to wait.
Under work health and safety laws workers and other people at our workplace must take reasonable care that they do not adversely affect
Thank you for your response, but I 'm not sure that I agree with the last bullet. I don 't think that you meant that each "room" should have a sharps and biohazard container. Shouldn 't we only have those in examination rooms or the labs? The reception are wouldn 't need a sharps container, nor would it need a biohazard waste
First I would need to review the previous controller’s closing process to determine areas that need improving. Next I would document every step of the closing process this will help itemize the nature of each task, who completes it, the time required to complete it, and any queue times that appear when a task is shifted to a different person within the process. I would also consider shifting work outside the period traditionally reserved for closing activities. I would review the closing activities to determine which ones could be shifted to the previous months and which ones can be delayed until after close. Implementing automation can also shorten the closing process.
After finding the Rf values of the four known compounds, solvent 1 (99.5% ethyl acetate/0.5% acetic acid) was chosen, due to the wide range of results, for the remaining experiments. Ibuprofen, our known tablet, gave a similar Rf value to our previous results for Ibuprofen. For Anadin extra, there were three compounds identified as Caffeine, Paracetamol and Aspirin as the Rf values of the drug were close to the values of these three compounds in the first part of the practical. For both of these known drugs, the Rf values acquired were close to my predictions before the experiment. For the unknown powder, we obtained Rf values of 0.52 and 0.76 so we believe that the unknown powder contains Aspirin and Ibuprofen.
Lexis specific to this lab includes terms such as immunohistochemistry, DPX, sliding microtome, belly dancer, and fume hood. The head researcher occupies the head of expertise followed by the assistant researchers, graduate students and lastly,

ESA #6A Task 4 4(a) Review and evaluate building-based policies and procedures relevant to the protection of the welfare and safety of students, staff, and visitors within the selected school. Buckeye Career Center has a variety of policies and procedures dealing with safety of individuals on the property. The procedures, defined both in the public student handbook and the private safety plan, will be reviewed in that order. The first safety policy listed in the student handbook is the safety test. As BCC provides training in vocations that have inherent risks, all students must complete a safety unit at the beginning or school and pass a safety test for their lab with a 100%.
The investigation was carried out to identify the presence or absence of biological molecules in serum 2216. If the concentration in each test tube of the dilutions carried out will be more concentrated then the concentration of the test tube before it, then the color will be at an equal concentration with the other dilutions performed. The hypothesis was wrong because of the difference in concentrations due to the different measurements within the dilutions done. The test for starch was to add a drop of iodine solution to the pipette in the spotting tile. A reducing sugar solutions is add inside a test tube with 3 drops to then add 3 drops of benedicts and plane in a water bath.
As the main focus of all of these labs was testing a
We must make sure that all chemicals that we use for experiments, cleaning etc are locked away in a cupboard safely or kept high up on a shelf out of reach of the children so they don't mistake them fr flavoured drinks and swallow them. If we are working with babies it isimportant that safety gate are placed at the bottom of all stairs and at all doors so that they can't get up the stairs or jam thier fingers in the door
INTRODUCTION A gas chromatograph (GC) can be utilized to analyze the contents of a sample quantitatively or in certain circumstances also qualitatively. In the case of preparative chromatography, a pure compound can be extracted from a mixture. The principle of gas chromatography can be explained as following: A micro syringe is used to inject a known volume of vaporous or liquid analyte into the head or entrance of a column whereby a stream of an inert gas acts a carrier (mobile phase). The column acts as a separator of individual or chemically similar components.
The advantages that HCG commands over other international cancer care establishments are: 1. Hub and Spoke model – This is a unique structure which gives HCG tremendous advantage in cost, revenue, quality and ease of access as compared to other centres which are either full scale standalone centres or work as a JV embedded in a hospital as a department. This restricts their expansion and the control and quality of treatments. 2. Centralised Hub rationalizes talent requirement – With a shortage of skilled specialists and nurses across the world, the requirement for a large number of personnel is reduced due to the hub.
This can be tested by simply mixing the serum of suspected individual which contain the antibodies with the antigens of specific bacteria the accumulation of clumps confirms the presence of particular bacterial infection.[2] This test can be performed in various ways including slide agglutination reaction, tube agglutination reaction, indirect agglutination inhibition reactions etc. Another important practical application involves blood group test of
It also better to ensure that the materials like hemocytometer and pipettes are sterilized and clean so that there would be lesser or no artifacts would be seen under the microscope. The researcher was to use trypan blue exclusion method to test for cell viability, observe the non-viable and viable cells, and was able to have a cell count using the
