They are minor characters to Hamlet’s main, but are important to understanding Hamlet’s character in the play. Laertes and Fortinbras expose Hamlet’s true nature. Laertes, Fortinbras, and Hamlet are all in similar situations. They have all lost their fathers to murder and want some kind of revenge.
One similarity that makes Laertes such a good foil to Hamlet is that they both return to Denmark when they have lost a father. However, the sharp contrast in their reaction to these deaths reveals more about Hamlet’s character. Upon returning to
His suicidal thought and his erratic behavior cause for the king, queen, Ophelia and his friends to begin to spy on him just pushes him over the edge. Hamlet and Fortinbras have similarities such as they both have lost their fathers, both have their uncles on the thrown of their country, and they both seek revenge because of the mourning of their fathers. Hamlet and Fortinbras are different because Hamlet overthinks things whereas Fortinbras takes action first and thinks about it later, Hamlet is also unwilling to act if he is unsure of it and Fortinbras will put people at risk to get revenge. What readers and audience members come to understand as a result of the similarities and differences that exist between Hamlet and Fortinbras is that they are basically opposites of each other. This archetype is shown through Hamlet’s values and actions. One aspect of a tragic hero is that the character must be flawed in his judgment. For example, upon listening to Claudius’ confession of to God, Hamlet confirms that Claudius is his father’s murderer. However, he still delays in killing him. Once more, Hamlet makes the wrong choice, believing that this is not the right time to kill Claudius.

(4.4.60-63) Here, Hamlet is fascinated with the fact that Fortinbras would wage a battle for land that has no meaning. Fortinbras is a manly warrior and shows the ability to take action.
Although Hamlet and Horatio have a really close relationship, they do contrast from each other but have some similarities as well. Horatio is a man like no other that is always there, right by Hamlet’s side when he needs him. Horatio is a character foil for Hamlet because he is the type of man that has pride in himself and everything that he does. Hamlet, on the other hand, does not take pride in himself and is the true definition of a coward. Throughout the play, it is evident that Horatio possesses traits that Hamlet seems to be missing and Hamlet says, “no, not for a king/ Upon whose property and most dear life/

Hamlet is William Shakespeare 's renowned tale of mystery, intrigue, and murder, centered on a young misguided prince who can only trust himself. Some may say that the actions of Prince Hamlet throughout the play are weak and fearful, displaying a tendency to procrastinate and showing an apathetic nature towards his family and peers. Others spin a tale of a noble young scholar, driven mad by the cold-blooded murder of his father by his uncle. In truth, I believe Hamlet is neither of these things. Hamlet is a sort of amalgamation of the two, a bundle of contradictions thrown together into one conflicting but very human mess of a character.
Horatio shows his loyalty towards Hamlet. He is a great friend to Hamlet who is always looking out for him. As a loyal friend to Hamlet, he informs Hamlet that he saw his father as a ghost. Hamlet is an example. ‘Born’ personality, shifting mentality, and inevitable fate leads to its tragedy which eventually triggers audience’s pity.
