For example, The Ferry has magnificent scenery that flaunts the crystal waters of the Potomac and Shenandoah. Even Thomas Jefferson declared that it “is perhaps one of the most stupendous scenes in nature”.It also shows the importance of African American civil rights because of Storer College, John Brown’s Fort, and Maryland Heights. The park attracts tourists which helps the economy of the state since tourism in our largest industry. The park also has trails and walks for athletic visitors because history isn’t the only feature of the park. I believe that this park is truly a treasure because not only does it display the history of West Virginia, it also shows the nation’s pride and
Imagine walking on an island untouched by man, a place where people can see the grace of nature. An island like this seems to good too be true in a world with concrete everywhere. This island is a Florida Key that is part of a national park in Florida named Biscayne National Park that was established due to two great factors. But, Biscayne National Park wasn’t just established, it was established because of a multitude of different reasons. These reasons are a rich history of how it was established and the increasing struggle to conserve the Biscayne land. In Florida; Biscayne National Park was established because of the rich history that surrounds it and the effort of wilderness conservation.
Imagine: It’s winter 1778 at Valley Forge. (Valley Forge was the military camp 18 miles northwest of Philadelphia, where the American Continental Army spent the winter of 1777–78 during the American Revolutionary War) you walk into the camp and the men huddle around different campfires trying to get warm. Tonight on the menu is more meat, while the men are handed their portions they’re crying in agony to eat something else. You’ve been talking to the men and they tell you stories about the meals their wives made and how their children would have grown by now. But somewhere in both the happy and sad stories there is a certain cheerfulness peering out behind the clouds. When the fires died out men went to their huts that housed 12 men. The fire in the hut caused the men to be emerged in smoke because of extremely poor ventilation. There skin is absorbing the smoke causing men to get sick and cough. In the morning the fires have died out and now you can smell what some people call the stench of death. One
After three long years away from his family overseas, John White returned to the Roanoke colony only to discover a site that would raise questions for the next hundreds of years. Carved into a nearby tree of the Roanoke colony, the words “Croatoan” and “Cro” were the last shrew of evidence remaining of the Roanoke colony. The word “Croatoan” remains a mystery amongst scientists and archeologists today. The lost colony of Roanoke has developed many ideas and questions of the settlers’ location. Theories have developed over time but little facts are known about the disappearance of Roanoke’s settlers.
Along the North and South Carolina border is the Whitewater Falls Chain-six different waterfalls that are just one attraction in a unique part of the Blue Ridge Mountains. One writer of this wilderness area described it as a blue wall. For about 70 miles there is what 's called an escarpment. This is shear rock face lining deep gorges. The gorges are deep ravines that were created by the rushing waters. This area is called the Jocacee Gorges. For centuries, these pristine woodlands and waterways have been a source of sustenance to the local people, and wildlife, a source of inspiration to writers, dreamers and poets, and a source of recreation and relaxation to thousands of hikers, campers and explorers. The executive director of the South Carolina
Muscatine iowa is concidering building a public dog park in a residential area of the city. The park would consist of an acre of open land surrounded by a fence where dog owners can unleash their dogs for play and exersie. Sounds like a reasonable request to consider... but is it bound to be a burden for tax payers and the everyday life of a resident in the city or are we in desperate need af a dog park?
The neighborhood of Lincolnville was established after the Civil War by freed slaves and, is in the oldest city in America, St. Augustine. The settlement was first called Little Africa, however, when the streets were paved in 1878 the community became known as Lincolnville in honor of Abraham Lincoln (1). The Lincolnville District is St. Augustine 's most well-known black neighborhood and has been a part of many important events in not only African American history, but also St. Augustine’s and America. Racism and segregation in the South during the late 19th century and early 20th allowed for black businesses to be established and then for them to grow and prosper. As the 20th century progressed Lincolnville became an important part of St.
If I was in Valley Forge, I would stay and train there. There are very harsh conditions at Valley Forge. I would stay through that to test myself and see how tough I am to see if I can last the conditions. I also want to be known as someone who fought the conditions and trained for war for testing at Valley Forge. I also want people to notice my skills and endurance as a fighter. I want to look fierce in battle to hopefully intimidate my opponents and lower their defense. I’ll even go stealth, and use long range weapons to hide and snipe people. Lastly, I want to protect my family and people. I want to stay to fight as hard as possible to make sure that everyone that looks up to me is safe from my foes. I also want to make my citizens proud
If it weren’t for the “New Deal” programs in the 1930s, Tennessee’s State Park system would be unrecognizable and not one of the best in the United States (US). With the assistance of federal money and guidance, Tennessee has been able to create an integrated system of parks that capture the natural beauty and character of Tennessee while providing amazing outdoor public recreation activities. The programs helped establish state parks; influenced Tennessee’s governmental structure to ensure the vision of regional planning and interconnectivity continued; and developed a land planning strategy that is still used today. Visiting any one of the current 56 State Parks will provide an insight to Tennessee’s long history with the federal government.
Yesterday, the seventh grade went on a retreat at the St. Agnes church in Pinedale, a small part of Fresno. The weather could not be more perfect. It was cool and misty outside, and room temperature inside. The retreat was lead by Father Sergio, who had come down from Sacramento to give the seventh and eighth grade retreats here in Fresno. The opening remark was “You get out of this retreat what you put into it.” and this point was very true. To experience this retreat fully, one has to be energized and ready to think, as that will yield what the retreat was capable of.
If I got arrested, a Tijuana prison, I would imagine: fingers broken by guards, lying in feces on a floor at night, food laden with hepatitis or worse.

One of the surprising fact about Central Park is that in August 1997, it hosted the biggest concert ever on record. The free concert was attended by 980,000 people and country singer Garth Brooks performed. Therefore, this park has a rich history, beautiful nature and numerous opportunities for activities, culture, fun, and relaxation. Central Park is a major destination for student trips, family outings, concerts and music festivals, shootings and various cultural events. Having been designed by prominent architects, this park serves as a model for many urban parks in the world (Taylor, 1999). Certainly, spending time at the Central Park gives one lifetime memories and
I took one step at a time looking straight at the sidewalk which was as fresh and as white as unopened chalk. The trees were all young and weren’t tall and bulky. On any normal day, walking along this newly developed street was pleasant. It was enjoyable feeling the serenity and quietness that came from a suburban neighborhood. While I was still walking, I could see that right in my direct field of vision was my house, along with my family surrounding our minivan.
We are born into a world where we do not know a lot of things and become very curious about our surroundings. We are all chosen to live because of important reasons and as toddlers we obviously do not know much and living in a certain area all of our lives we do not really see what is in other different environments, because of this we do not know any much better. My family, friends and I grew up in a place where it could be toxic and unhealthy both affecting us mentally and physically. I have always thought of things differently and hopefully I can cause a change in the conditions from we live in.
