Introduction.
What does it take for you to be happy? How do your surroundings and the dynamics of your environment affect your state of mind and happiness? All around the world, people strive towards a happy life and many consider the acquirement of happiness as their main objective or goal. Happiness can be interpreted in terms of relationships, career, and leisure. The policies of a country or a governing entity has an indisputable role in ensuring the happiness of its citizens. Happiness has recently been taken into consideration as a major tool for measuring social progress, due to which many governing bodies have started to consider the happiness of its citizens as an important agenda in their policies. The terms “Government entity” and “Government body” is not a singular reference to a government running a country; instead, it could also be referring to a smaller body governing an area such as a town or a city. Bhutan has stimulated happiness into their government and social service policies the furthest, while as countries such as the

The results of the “World Value Survey” provide upholding support for this statement. This survey observed a decline in happiness scores in Bangladesh, with the happiness declining steadily from 67.03% SM in 1996 to 63.4% SM in 2002 with no signs of slowing down; while countries in Europe and America have been able to maintain their high levels of happiness (Camfield, Choudhury & Devine, 2007). This is because the countries in Europe and America have a general tendency to invest in social services that lead to the design, development, and maintenance of their cities. From this, we can conclude that clean and well-designed settlements play a major role in inducing and maintaining high levels of
One of those words that is commonly misinterpreted, especially in today's society. In today's society, we believe that happiness is reaching your final destination without any bumps in the road, or being rich and getting everything you want. This is simply not the case; happiness is a person’s satisfaction with life on a day-to-day basis regardless of circumstances. Happiness is being happy with your daily routine and getting up everyday excited to start your day. The most common leading cause for human beings to lose their sense of real happiness is the overuse of technology.
Bhutan, a country with high levels of happiness, is unique in its own way in which the higher national goal is for gross nation happiness (Belic, 2011). Unlike other countries, Bhutan’s society presented the government the responsibility to allow and build opportunities to gin happiness (Belic, 2011). Through this, the government has control over the levels of happiness that citizens gain. Beneficially, citizens of Bhutan are offered opportunities that allow each to gain happy experiences but the level of happy they become, depends on the effectiveness of their civic engagement. Without the government containing the responsibility of providing opportunities for happiness, citizens would not have the highest chance to work within the
In Mark Kingwell’s excerpt, “In Pursuit of Happiness,” he discusses the challenge of defining happiness. This work serves to inform the audience on a topic they may never have considered while using evidence and support from philosophers, authors, and even scientists to contribute to various viewpoints on the subject. At the end of the excerpt, Kingwell discusses happiness, even unhappiness, and concludes with his own opinions on the subject. Since the beginning of human existence, people have tried to define happiness, but no one has described it sufficiently, which means the search continues.
As outlined in chapter 10 of the course text, inequality in housing and wealth is a major problem. The United States is described to be the most unequal countries in the western hemisphere. But with the inequalities when it comes to wealth, the United States is one of the richest countries in the world. Wealth is the sum total of a person’s assets. These assets include, cash in the bank and value of all properties, not only land but houses, cars, stocks, and bonds, and retirements savings.
Happiness is a rite of passage to everyone no matter what cost. It can be extremely difficult to take someone’s happiness away, but it can be done. For example, in the book “Anthem” by Ayn Rand, Prometheus’ happiness is stripped from him in a futuristic society focused around similarity and compliance. Similarly, this unfortunately can happen as we are currently witnessing in Communist countries. Rand describes taking away individuality by forcing everyone to use “we” instead of “I”.
Happiness is an emotion, which makes it subjective, so it is difficult to have a definite meaning for the word. Is happiness just the absence of a negative feeling or is it the feeling of fulfillment and joy? Depending on the person, the answer varies and different activities make different types of people happy. Furthermore, each individual is willing to sacrifice certain materials to bring them joy. Nevertheless, in general, as a society, people sacrifice certain things, like money and time, in order to “make them happy.”
Lastly, I believe the last key to happiness if to look at everything in the most possible way. If you look at everything negative then you will never be truly happy and you won’t have very many people who wants to be around a Debby Downer. Being happy is a choice, as Abraham Lincoln said,” Most folks are happy as they make up their mind to be” you have every right to be happy, its just up to you to make it
One study revealed that money was an essential need for happiness, but it was not what made the people happy. They established satisfaction in close relationships with loved ones, community work, fulfillment and pride from their work and accomplishments (Diener and Biswas-Diener 162). The highest life satisfaction was found in societies of wealthy nation while the unhappiest nations were the extremely poor ones. When it comes to materialism, it does not matter if someone is rich or poor, all that matters is that “your income is sufficient to your desire,” and that “differences in aspirations lead to very different amounts of happiness” (Diener and Biswas-Diener 170).
Not many achieve happiness in their lifetime. Either they do not live long enough to witness it or they are not prepared for what their happiness is. Happiness is very subjective. Each person’s version of happiness is different. This version of happiness is universal.
In the book " Geography of Bliss" by Eric Weiner, he is set off to a journey to find the happiest country around the globe including Switzerland, Bhutan, Qatar, and Iceland to search and discover how happiness is define and what are the things that make people happy in that country. He discovered that happiness cannot just only find inside yourself, but it is a function of place. Cultural values and traits have an effect and influence on the degree of happiness. According to Weiner, in Switzerland, "Swiss go to great lengths not to provoke envy in others" (Page 31) in one of their way that makes people in their country happy.
Think of some favorite memories or objects: the first love, favorite pet, favorite foods, or maybe even a good vacation. What do all of these have in common? When recalled, these memories or objects bring a sense of happiness that makes one think fondly of these things. Happiness is an emotion that the human race strives for. As Schoch explains, “Happiness is...
: Definition of happiness is different from person to person. Happiness is a inner feelings or emotions of the person. For some people, happiness is to enjoy their work, social life, but for other it may be money or family. Happiness is an experience in which we can understand more and learn appreciation. Sometimes, happiness is difficult for many to achieve just because of we can not enjoy the moment that we have.
If you know the tools for happiness, then you’ll make it work like magic Happiness might be in the smallest of the things but sometimes the material things won’t give you permanent feeling of joy, you might be happy with those things for a shorter time but it won’t be long lasting. Just as learning new skills requires effort, you will have to strive and work hard to achieve real, long lasting happiness. 2. If you are satisfied with everything you’ve, you might lose the motivation to achieve more and be more happy Happiness is something that boosts up your energy.
How does someone know if they are truly happy? Much of society have come to associate happiness with the pursuits of personal pleasures or that which makes us “feels good”. When we feel good we display positive expression of emotions such as joy, laughter, kindness and fewer negative emotions such as anger, hate, and sadness. To some people our happiness is already determined through our genes. Some people seek happiness through money and material possessions.
Happiness can be defined in many different ways depending on who you are talking to. To me, it can be found listening to my favorite music with the volume turned all the way up. Through this experience I am able to immerse myself in something I truly love and be a be a better, lighter version of myself. For some, happiness is living in the moment and experiencing life as it passes, but for others it means living a life of virtue. Though happiness may look different for everyone, it is something that everyone is striving for.
