To be valued as the “Greatest Canadian” is an honor when someone has made their way throughout high school with only average grades. The “Greatest Canadian” should pertain qualities such as being intelligent, hard working, motivated, involved and experienced. Where we’re from, who we know, and how our mental makeup is, is very important in our lives. It can be the deciding factor between life in prison and a life dedicated to giving back to others. The city of Vancouver had a dreadful reputation early in the 21st century when the world ascertained that there was a serial killer living in the area. The man responsible for this, known as Robert William Pickton, soon became notorious for the crimes he committed on the women who lived in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Often, individuals who engage in severe criminal activities have some sort of personality disorder brought about by either biological characteristics, environmental factors or both. An individual's upbringing also plays a critical role in future deviant behaviour. The words “psychopath” and “sociopath” are thrown around quite often and commonly confused, but please bear with me as we dive deeper into the true meaning of the words. Modern researchers and doctors have returned to using the term “psychopath”.
