Anglo-Saxon: In the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, J.K Rowling utilizes several elements from Anglo-Saxon period to reflect heroic code. Harry, Ron, and Hermione are three main characters who are chosen by sorting hand to Gryffindor house which emphasises the traits of courage. First, J.K Rowling states courage as a necessary characteristic for heroes in Anglo-saxon period. To learn from Beowulf’s courage to kill nine sea monsters, author shows Harry and Ron’s bravery when they protect Hermione from giant troll in the girl’s bathroom (Rowling, 141).
