Summer is over and the kids are back in school. This means they're going to make new friends, learn new things, and bring home bugs of every sort. If you're a parent, there may come a point in your life where you have to deal with head lice.

As frustrating as head lice can be, it is actually quite common in children ages three to ten. This is because younger children are often in close proximity with each other and think nothing of sharing combs, hats, and hair ties.

When it comes to treating head lice, many parents head to their local drug store to buy the strongest pesticide they can find. These pesticides come in the form of lice combs, lice-killing shampoo, and sprays.

Here are four effective ways to treat head lice naturally:

1. Vinegar

One natural remedy for head lice involves saturating the hair with vinegar. This approach is pretty convenient, as you probably already have vinegar at home. Pour vinegar into your child's hair over a sink or basin. When it is completely soaked, cover the head with a shower cap and leave it on for at least an hour. Wash hair thoroughly afterward.

Vinegar should kill lice in as little as two or three days.

2. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is another natural and easy to way to kill head lice. For best results, put fifteen drops of tea tree oil in a half-used bottle of shampoo. Wash your child's hair thoroughly and rinse. Repeat if desired. This natural head lice remedy should be used daily for five to seven days.

3. Mayonnaise
