Health of women from Burma
Since 1997, the republic of the Union of Myanmar has ratified the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women to improve gender equality in the country (Burma Human Rights Yearbook, 2006, p. 365). However, despite acceding to the Convention and international obligation, Burma has constantly failed to promote human rights under its military regime and the cultural norms. Especially, women living in the conflict areas and remote hill areas are continuously discriminated by the traditional patriarchy system and they become the most vulnerable to human rights abuses which include state-sponsored rape and trafficking. …show more content…
