Tahoe Haverty Mrs. Colondres February 9, 2018 Henri Reynders Living a far from average life, Henri Reynders has been called a hero many a time. He was known as Father Henri, Henri Reynders, but most commonly as Dom Bruno. Growing up in a Catholic, upper middle class family, Bruno was gifted an excellent education at an upscale Catholic school, which would later help him to be accepted as a postulant. He achieved many goals throughout his life, but his accomplishments then were nothing compared to what would later do during the Holocaust. Example, risking his life and putting everything he worked for in jeopardy. As the Holocaust was a period in time, full of unimaginable terrors. All because he knew it was the right thing to do. During his work, he was informed that the residents, along with the manager, were Jews in hiding. Then soon after, the Jewish adults were being removed from society, Bruno decided to meet with Albert Van Den Berg, who was connected and a part of an organization who moved Jewish children into more safe hiding spots. This was the start to reach more meaningful, real accomplishments in Bruno’s life. He rode his bike place to place, working alone to protect his peers, in search of hiding places for Jews. along with the help of his new colleague, Albert. Although people know him for finding hiding places for Jews, especially children. He also did a large amount of forging of baptism certificates, food coupons and identity …show more content…
Well, he did have financial help from multiple people and organizations, such as Jules Dubois Pelerin, an economist, his companion Albert Van Den Berg, and other resources. That extra help, allowed Bruno to continue and succeed in his work. Although, in the midst of all of this, he was in great danger to himself. Therefore, he had to be moved. However, that didn’t stop him. He was dedicated in looking for more safe places. He even sent Jewish children to his brother’s and own mother’s home, allowing Bruno to continuing saving lives without being caught by
He donated lots of money to people and places and charities that needed it the most . This would be one reason why someone would think he is heroic. Many people would not really see this heroic because he was a wealthy man he had a lot more money than what he donated. Yes he did donate a good portion of his money but people
First of all, he risked his life to save that girl, since if they were caught, everyone would have died. Secondly, he knew how evil the Nazis were and what they would do to the girl, and that’s what his choices were based on. Also, his choices were so good that they were recognized in TWO COUNTRIES!! That’s pretty cool, I think. All

The article, “Teens Against Hitler”, by Lauren Tarshis, describes Ben Kamm, a Jewish boy, and his fight against war and the prejudice Nazis had for the Jewish people. The article describes, “One of the darkest and most evil chapters in history- the Holocaust.” Ben Kamm and his family lived in Warsaw, Poland in the 1920’s. “Germany had been struggling since 1918 when it was defeated in WW1.” Adolf Hitler was planning on annihilating all the Jews in Europe.
The book Daniel’s Story describes events that happened during the Holocaust through a fictional character, Daniel. The way the Nazis treated the Jewish people was awful and cruel. Many of these actions made me sick to my stomach, knowing that this actually happened. From his uncle’s ashes being sent in the mail, people beating up the Jews, a SS officer shooting a young boy, and the living conditions of the Jews in the ghetto, these are some of the events that were horrifying.
About one-third of all Jewish people in the world were murdered during the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel was not apart of that appalling statistic and credits luck for his survival, although his experiences were no less tragic. Elie Wiesel himself writes that he is not sure how or why he survived however, went on to accomplish many things with the chance he was given in honor of those who lost their lives. Wiesel was able to write novels, create his own foundation and receive awards during his time on Earth. Amy Ray once said,“It's important to have a voice; it's more important to use it.”
He never became selfish like many of the other sons ridding themselves of the baggage of their fathers. After the holocaust he went on with his life and became a writer and received numerous awards for writing about topics such as the holocaust. The book was interesting and emotional, and never having to experience that is something to be thankful
Elie Wiesel was very optimistic about his occurrences, and believed he survived for a reason. Wiesel have said that he survived to speak for the millions of Jewish who died during the Holocaust. Even though Wiesel faced a scary past, he uses his experience as his strength. He formed memorials for the victims, and used his name to cause awareness. 5.
Strength The will to survive, The will to survive, the only thing driving the holocaust survivors forward in their struggle to survive Auschwitz and having the strength to revisit the memories to tell the story so it is not forgotten. Throughout the holocaust millions of people died at the hands of the Nazi party, in the book night the author explains his experiences throughout his many years at Auschwitz and his story of survival and why strength played a major part in his survival. Henry Beacher states that “Greatness lies in not being strong, but in the right use of strength” and it is supported by the courage, resistance, and the will not to die as shown by the book night and his mission to spread the story. Throughout history people have suffered but have pulled out of their deep pit of despair and have
Discrimination against Jews “..when we were told we couldn't live in our house we had to move to a different part of Cracow, where the soldiers built a big wall and my mother and father and my brother and I all had to live in one room.” [Ch.12 p.128] Here, Shmuel recounts what happened to his family and him before moving to Auschwitz into a concentration camp. He stated that they were “told” they were unable to love in their home anymore but in one room instead; we are able to learn that they are not free and it's the beginning of their entrapment. “The train was horrible.. There were too many of us in the carriages for one thing.
During the holocaust there were tons of horrible things going on, but there were still a few people who tried to make things better. In this research essay I am going to talk about the heroes that really caught my eye by the things they’ve done to try and make things better. Irene was born in Poland into a Catholic family. She hid in the forest until she was found by a Russian Solider who had raped and beaten her. Rugemer liked her so much that she later became his house keeper.
He felt it was important to relay the lessons he learned, so that others will not have to go through the same hardship, in the future. This reflects Moishe the Beadle’s struggles “Infants were tossed into the air and used as targets for the machine guns” (Wiesel, 6). These monstrous events are the result of not acting because they felt no personal connection. This resulted in not bearing witness, and the massive loss of life during The Holocaust. Making the choice to bear witness needs to be made before it is too late.
This is where I start, In the fable, “The boy in the striped pajamas” by John Boyne took place during the holocaust. It’s easier to be brave if you don’t know how dangerous a situation is. Discuss whether Bruno is a brave boy or a coward. The holocaust was an example of genocide. It was between 1933 through 1945.
A thirteen year old boy had to face the most terrifying thing that's known to happen to people. Elie Wiesel went through a lot when he was just a teenager but still showed great courage throughout the whole situation. When Elie Wiesel went to concentration camps during the holocaust he did everything he could do to survive and never gave up. Elie showed great stamina throughout the holocaust. Elie Wiesel showed stamina during his biggest problems and the not as big problems.
He did not chose to have to evacuate with the other prisoners instead of stay with the sick and injured that were liberated two days later. Although His father lied about his age, it happened by chance and less by choice that he lived as long as he did. It was his fate that he was finally liberated and survived the holocaust then later wrote this
