The Great Compromise of 1850 was created in hopes to prevent a civil war between the northern and southern states after new territory was acquired from the Mexican War. Although the Great Compromise failed to create a united nation, it prolonged the outbreak of a civil war for nearly a century. Following the Mexican war, was a period of building tension between the northern states and southern states. Many tried and failed to face the debate of compromise in uniting the north and the south. Henry Clay, one of Kentucky’s very own senators, plays a hand in an attempt to help solve the outreaching debate over slavery and the territory in which slavery is allowed. I feel as if I should introduce him to show how he had great potential all his life to accomplish these things. Henry Clay was introduced into this world on April 12,1977. This happened to be almost two years to the day since the shedding of the first blood at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts that marked the beginning of the shooting war with Britain. People rumored that in this since, Henry Clay and his country were intertwined with both origin and destiny. Henry Clay actually grew up in Virginia. He lived there most of his life before his parents obtained the opportunity to move their family to the great state of Kentucky. This is where Henry began his legacy of being an American Hero. He was able to overcome adversity and endured great suffering along with great failures. Henry Clay led his nation toward greatness and away from civil war. He began to woe his people by his quality of leadership and public speaking. Fast forwarding through his years, Clay thrived to see the compromise between the north and the south. He was bound and determined to acquire a solution as to how he was going to make that happen. Clay witnessed many failures to halt the disagreements between the north and the south, even experiencing his own failures with his attempts. With that being said, he could have given up his hope but as for the determination of this man, he never gave up and gave the nation a piece that was missing by providing The Great Compromise, finally uniting the north and the south, and settling their
