After the match the kid I wrestled asked me if that was my first takedown I told him yes, and he shook my hand again. It shows respect is earned because after matches wrestlers shake eachothers
Respect is a word that has a lot of depth to it no matter what way you use it. The word by definition is kind of hard to pin down concretely because it is subjective, and it can be used in many different ways with many different meanings based on the usage. All definitions aside, the respect that most people want is the respect that is earned by the showing of honorable actions or personality characteristics. The referee said “Shake hands and keep all feelings off the mat.”. As we shook hands I made sure to squeeze it enough to inflict some pain and fear into him because I couldn't win by strength alone. I used this tactic for all of my matches. People would have been in fear and wouldn't make the first move fearing that they would mess up and it would be the signature to their death

To Respect or to be a Kiss Up “Treat others the way you want to be treated. ” We’ve all heard that overused phrase growing up. It shows that you admire them, that you care for them, or possibly even fear them.
There is a direct link between self respect and an individual's response to injustice. When someone treats us poorly, we might feel the need to fight back because of our self respect, but if we don't we’re letting people control and take advantage of us. Respect is an important life skill needed to coexist with others in our current society. Whether it’s in elementary school or high school, we’ve always been taught to treat each other with respect. Here at JFK, our motto is “respect is the key to success”. The word respect, in my opinion, means to treat each other equally despite their difference in opinions, race, gender, or any other aspect that could skew your opinion on who someone is. I agree with the school motto, however, it doesn’t hold true in our school and can definitely be improved upon.
