Hernando Cortes was born in Medellin, Spain in 1485. At the 14 Hernando he began to study at the University of Salamanca in Spain. He stayed there for 2 years, but failed his courses and had to back return home. When he heard stories about the New World he wanted took part in it and joined an expedition to the new world. Hernando severed as a soldier in an expedition of Cuba who lead Diego Velazquez in 1511. Hernando first explored to Santo Domingo by ship in 1504. He accomplished conquering the Aztecs, he was given the governorship of Mexico in 1521- 1524, and began founding cities and expanding the Spanish Crown, developed mines and farmlands. I think Hernan success in his journey because he won many battles, claimed land for the Spanish
