If a bus was filled and there were no places for white passengers on the bus to sit, then bus driver would ask the black passengers to give up their seats. By one person standing up for their rights and what they believe in caused a movement for change. Rosa Parks showed the qualities of a hero and embodied them, unlike Gilgamesh. She showed courage in refusing to give up her seat on a bus to a white man, which led to her arrest and not only the loss of her job but also her husband 's. She even received death threats for years.
In the early 1800’s and long before if you were not White, you were just another paper floating through the air. Harriet Tubman viewed you as more than just a paper floating or dust to kick, she dedicated her life to saving you even if it meant being known as a thief. Harriet Tubman is a hero because she did the impossible; she led over 300 people to freedom. Even though she knew she could possibly be caught and killed doing this, she didn’t care. All she wanted was her people to be free.
Yet all that time he had still been a loyal follower and leader in the making. He stays grateful and does whatever Beowulf last dying breaths wish for. “/Then he brought their treasure to Beowulf, and found/ His famous king bloody, gasping / For breath.” Lines (810-812). This shows that Wiglaf had one wish and that is to bask in the victory he’d won with his lord. In doing so he proved himself worthy.
Annie Sullivan had many struggles throughout her lifetime, but she was able to pass through those obstacles with determination. This determination is shown throughout the nonfiction play, The Miracle Worker, written by William Gibson. Annie Sullivan was the teacher of Helen Keller—a blind and deaf six year old girl. After weeks of discipline and training, Helen was finally able to understand that words and letters meant something. Without determination, Annie would not have been able to achieve this miracle.
Although, Kate wondered how a young girl could help with Helen, since, the Kellers could not get Helen to sit still, or even to behave. Kate was expecting a governess that was older than a twenty-year-old, Annie. Annie told Kate the advantages she possesses in helping Helen such as, her too was blind. The fact that Annie was blind caught Kate’s attention. In addition, Annie continued to convince Kate on why she is the right person to help Helen when she mentioned that Dr. Howe taught her all she needed to know.

The Most Influential Woman of Her Time “You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.”, Rosa Parks strongly stated. She truly believed in this and followed it to her own success as well as the success in the country. Her childhood impacted her future. (Simple) The bus boycott supplied new actions for the country and Rosa. Her later life improved situations for different people, such as herself.
Rosa Parks is one of the most influential women of the 21st century, Rosa is remembered for her bravery and her courage in the face of discrimination. Rosa sparked a boycott of bus transportation in Montgomery Alabama, a turning point in the civil rights movement lead by renowned civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. Not only did Rosa Parks inspire a group of people who had been discriminated against for hundreds of years but also inspired countless people to take a stand against it and fight for their rights. There is no doubt that Rosa parks was courageous but it is what she did with that courage to become one of the most influential people in the 21st century. I chose Rosa Parks for this essay because she was one of the most well known
“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.” This famous quote was said by Helen Keller, who was blind and deaf. Helen Keller inspired many people to not let something set them back from everyone else. I believe that Helen Keller is important to America’s history because she was very inspirational and did not let her deaf and blindness keep her from achieving her dreams. Helen Keller was born on June 27 in 1880 to Arthur and Kate Keller. At just 19 months, Helen became deaf and blind from a disease that isn’t confirmed.
Eleanor Roosevelt World’s First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt once stated, “You can do the thing you think you cannot do,” Which is exactly what Eleanor did. Eleanor Roosevelt changed America by standing up for human rights and being an encouragement to those during war time. She gave those who had lost their voices a voice. She showed America that when something bad is happening you don’t have to leave it to others to fix it. She left a legacy as the most outspoken woman ever to live in the White House and as many recall to her, “The Worlds First Lady”.
