High Jump Essay High Jump is one of the four main athletic jumping field events. This event requires it’s contestants to jump over a horizontal bar placed at heights, that change according to the capability of the contestants, without knocking the bar over or coming in contact with it. Professionally, athletes are allowed three chances to jump over the bar which can be placed at any height announced by the chief judge. If they are able to successfully do so, then then the bar will be raised and they will be granted another three chances to clear the next height, this process goes on until the jumper doesn’t clear a certain height in all of their attempts. Regardless of the fact that they are provided with multiple attempts, clearing a certain height in the jumpers first attempt would serve as an advantage, This is because it would not …show more content…

As mentioned before high jump is one of the track and field jumping events, and is held during multi-sport events, such as the Olympics. Men’s high jump was introduced to the Olympic athletics programme on the year 1896, which was the year the first Summer Olympics was held, and is still a part of the Olympic events. In the year 1928, the women’s high jump was one of the five events to be present on the first women’s athletics programme. Until the year 1948, the year in which long jump was permitted, women’s high jump was the only jumping event to be completed in. 2.39m, or 7ft 10 in, is the olympic record for high jump among men. This was set by Charles Austin in the year 19996. 2.06 m, or 6 ft 9 in, is the record for high jump among women. This was set by Yelena Slesarenko in the year 2004. Iolanda Balaş and Ulrike Meyfarth have been the only athletes, both woman, to have won two Olympic high jump titles.
