There are plenty of people we seek for help, to find information for our clients. For example, before creating a plan for a student we need to have a baseline of information to accurately prepare. Attendance, academic grades, and behavior referrals are things we need to find out before we can decide what exactly we are going to create a target goal for. Front desk staff is important considering they have the information we need, so it is critical to build relationships with them to get what we need in a timely manner. Being in a high school means there is more than just the front desk staff, there are also teachers and counselors who specifically refer students. If no students were referred there would not be a client base to work with. Teachers and counselors know our clients the best, they can pinpoint what a student may need since they have them for a good portion of a day. Therefor it is important to have good relationships with the teachers and counselors. After all, we are all here to assist the children, success is not possible if everyone is not on the same
He attends evening and weekend events and makes it a priority to keep the community informed daily through social media. Serving as Regional Superintendent should not be determined merely by friendships and social circles. It must be based on experience, credentials, and commitment. Included in his platform is a regional vocational/trades school which is vital for our students who are gifted in these areas. In addition, his business degree provides him with the training to insure fiscal solvency for his school
As a supervisor it also comes with a lot of responsibilities, the higher the position the more work and responsibility that comes along with it. At any job a supervisor is the person someone goes to if a situation cannot
On the other hand, superintendents in larger districts have the necessary support staff to manage the business department. Superintendents in larger districts have a team of individuals who assist in providing regular financial and budgetary reports to the school board. The case worker along with the client, payee, guardian, or other responsible parties collectedly create the service plan. The case worker present the ideal, but it is the client’s job to complete all paperwork, applications, or request outside services. Sometimes creating that balance of self –determination and vulnerable is often times a challenge, because the values and belief of a client can be totally different from a social worker. Even though case workers feel strongly about a situation it is the clients right to do as their please. For example, I and Level 5 caseworker were doing visit one day.
Over the past three decades’ educational leadership has been in search of ways to increase student literacy in urban middle schools in the southeast sections of the District of Columbia. The quest to closing achievement gaps in urban school districts have and will always be an on-going issue for educational leadership (Daly & Chrispells, 2008). Findings from research studies suggest that school leadership accounts for fully one quarter of total school effects on pupils, making it second only to classroom instruction among school-based factors affecting student achievement (Leithwood, Louis, Anderson & Wahlstrom, 2004). There are certain challenges that middle school principals face that pertain only to these middle school principals due to
It may seem a little invasive, but schools are permitted to use drug dogs to sniff out contraband during unannounced, random searches and it becomes a controversial problem for all. The use of drug-sniffing dogs in schools is permitted because students do not have a reasonable expectation of privacy in the school and school search did not go against the Fourth Amendment, which is the right of people to be secure in their personal spaces houses and papers. While drug dogs are becoming more and more commonplace in our public schools and to maintaining a drug-dog program can cost district estimates $12,000 and $36,000 every year. Drug dog must go through a long period of time of training and drug dogs are not dangerous to people, but instead it protects people. Without reservation, we must know the history background, advantages, and disadvantages of having a drug dog searches.
Bethany Hill once stated, “Every child you pass in the hall has a story that needs to be heard, maybe you are the one that needs to hear it.” That quote works because the person might have trouble at home and they might need a counselor to almost let a burden off of their shoulders and tell their story to. Some of the reasons Career Cruising chose being a school counselor for me because I like training and teaching, working with children and providing advice. I am most interested in pursuing a career as a school counselor because of its likeable working conditions, straightforward responsibilities and simple career preparations.
Sometimes the decision is made to bring in an external professional to work with the school. This may be necessary if children require specialist assessments if concerns are raised by staff or parent/carers. Although there are many different types of professionals I am going to explain the role of three professionals. Speech therapist work with children who have difficulties with speech, language and communication or eating, drinking and swallowing. They identify the causes of the speech difficulty and create speech and language programmes.
Politics also play a part in this dynamic on a large and small scale, from the board members who must campaign for their position to individuals engaging in self-promotion in hopes of improving their position. Legitimate formal power and direction comes from the top of the pyramid on down through the ranks. Perched at the top of the power pyramid are five elected county school board members and the county superintendent of schools. Below them are five assistant superintendents and at the next level down are a combination coordinators and program managers. Lastly, all other staff make up the base of this formation, having the least amount of influence and dependent on mid-level managers for resources, information and approval of decisions.
The text states, “The superintendent did have enormous power of initiative in virtually all matters concerning the schools: the appointment of staff, the selection of textbooks, plans and contracts for buildings, the determination of the curriculum, and normal decisions about everyday running of the schools” (159). When examining the formal education of our current educational institutions, it is evident that the power structure lies with superintendents, school boards and principals who share expectations on how classrooms should be run as well as decision making for the betterment of the institution and students. Overall, formal education has evolved and will continue to evolve as educators search for their perception of the “one best system” for their students. Throughout the history of education, power structure and social class matters have influenced how educators implement regulations, interact with community members and fellow educators, but most importantly, the education of students so that they may be instilled with the skills and confidence to further themselves as
Case management is a process that ensures that you are provided with whatever services you may need in a coordinated, effective, and efficient manner,FIntagliata, 1981 as cited in Frankel & Gelman (2012).Treatment is structured to ensure smooth transitions to the next level of care, avoid gaps in service, and respond rapidly to the threat of relapse. When I decided to train to become a professional school counselor, I knew I had a long road ahead. I am trained to be a teacher, a special education teacher to be specific, and though I will be able to use much of my past experience as a classroom teacher in my school counseling practice, I am aware that I will also need to see my students in a new way, a more holistic way. I will need to focus not only on what works in the classroom, but what works in order to motivate and support the students with whom I meet. It is essential for me to determine what will drive me, inspire me to be the best school counselor for both my school and students, therefore, I must determine my professional philosophy of education and school counseling and develop my beliefs, vision and mission statements.

I am also able to demonstrate my ability to function responsibly and effectively in an agency setting. In my field experience, I am given the opportunity to deliver the appropriate services to the client systems as defined by their area of specialization.
