Antonio seems to on average perform below grade level in both reading and writing. However, his behavior problems is one of the main contributing factors to this situation. Antonio has a hard time maintain focus and not only will he not stay on task but he often times becomes a distraction to his peers. Antonio also tends to sit on his knees or legs and dazes off during lectures or reading time. For example, after having directions repeated twice to the class as a whole, Antonio fails to meet the needs, requirements, and understandings to complete the task at hand. Antonio is constantly isolated from activities occurring in the classroom and form his peers, due to distractions and loss of focus. Additionally, because Antonio seems to have such a hard time concentrating on a specific task, he is still unable to connect sounds to letters and words. As a result, he is only able to read simple sight words. In writing, Antonio rarely makes any sense in his sentences, barely being able to spell many of the “level” first grade words. In comparison to his class as whole, Antonio is below grade level, and continuing to fall behind in both his reading and writing.

Ramos, Antonio’s General Education Teacher, is overwhelmed, frustrated and weary from attempting to ‘deal’ with Antonio. Sadly, she feels as if she has tried everything possible to get his attention, but nothing works. Additionally, Mrs. Ramos feels so overwhelmed that she is beginning to think that Antonio has some type of behavior problem such as ADD or ADHD that affects his attention. She knows that his actions are not normal, however, Antonio’s parents apparent lack the willingness to communicate or even respond to Mrs. Ramos’ concerns. She wants to help Antonio so that he can benefit from her instruction more effectively, however, she feels clueless as to what to do

We the people of Russell Kansas find our safety, community, and families at risk! These past couple of years we have been disturbed by the drugs and festation of the people committing theses crimes and acts around us. Russell is known for our quiet country feel where are children can be safe to run and play without the worries because of our self engaging community. Since the years, we are noticing large amounts of drugs soaring through or streets in which have began to affect the unimaginable. Our concern for the safety of our wellbeing would be in better hands if there was more law enforcement to help fulfill these uneasy feelings.

Gisselle Zepeda Mr. Lievre American Government Credit 5 Board of Education of Westside Community Schools Versus Mergens The Equal Access Act upheld by the Supreme Court in Board of Education v. Mergens, 1990, requires public secondary schools to allow access to religiously based student groups on the same basis as other student clubs. The school administration denied a group of students their right to create a Christian after school club. The students intended for their club to have just the same privileges and club meetings as all other after school clubs. The schools excuse being that it lacked faculty support which led to the school and district being sued by the students.
Despite his early academic struggles, by the time the third grade school year ended school Alton had made tremendous progress. Medina recalled Alton has “an average kid in school and stated, he wasn’t a scholar, but he did his work and he liked going to school.” Complimentary comments from his teachers about his hard work and improved effort are reflective of the satisfactory grades he then began to receive. In contrast, the progress notes also foreshadowed an area of Alton’s that he still continues to struggle with. Concern surrounding his socialization skills, his teachers highlighted an area that he needed to improve on.
Recent legislation requires schools to implement a Response to Intervention (RTI) model that is based on multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS). The goal of RTI is to identify students early who are struggling academically or behaviorally and provide appropriate interventions to prevent these challenges from becoming more serious and detrimental to their success. Under the traditional system, students may not receive extra services until a problem becomes severe, and they meet criteria for a special education qualification. RTI helps schools identify children earlier using systematic and scientific universal screeners of all children. Therefore, RTI gives students who are at-risk the opportunity to receive less intensive intervention services,
Many people think that most American schools are satisfactory. That is far from what is actually happening. The harsh reality is that schools that are unsatisfactory do exist. In Jonathan Kozol’s “Fremont High School”, he points out the flaws of a high school located somewhere in Los Angeles. This helps shine light on differences in the quality of education in various areas of the country.
Bobby does not seem to be actively engaged in a majority of the classroom instructions that I have observed. While instructions are being given Bobby is often playing with things in his desk, talking to classmates or trying to complete a task the rest of the class has completed. However, he does receive a bit of peer prompting that aids him in moving from one task to the next. Also, during reading groups, Bobby will receive encouragement and prompting from fellow peers during read-aloud time when it is his turn to read. When a fellow student is reading though, Bobby is looking around the room or playing with things in his hand and not following along.
“You’re going to the alternative school? What did you do to go there? You’re not a bad student.” If you live in Haysville, you know that there are two high schools. Haysville High, or the “inferior” school offers an alternative program.
With these realizations, Antonio becomes a fine young boy who understands the changes happening around him

Piaget and Maslow: Teaching the whole child Exceptional educators keep their fingers on the pulse of what their students need, in order to teach them effectively. Examining Piaget and Maslow’s theories, and applying them to the classroom will facilitate achieving this goal. Considering Piaget’s focus on development, and Maslow’s prioritization of human needs, one can integrate these ideas into classrooms and lesson plans that are optimized for student success.
