Highway to Motherhood How would you feel if you found out you were pregnant at the age of 16, or that you got some one pregnant? Most of you would not be very happy or excited. T.V. shows like “16 and Pregnant” discourage teen pregnancy because it shows you just how hard it would be a parent at such young age and how it effects a lot more people than just the parents. First off, being a teen mom, or dad, would be no easy task, and “16 and Pregnant” does a good job on showing that. Most of the teen moms usually end up being a single mom, and that leads to not being able to afford to have a child on their own. They have to make sure that they take care of themselves and the child, and that can get very difficult. The parents would have to
Gabby Rodriguez, who is 17 years old, wrote this book to tell about how she did the “pregnancy project”. She had always grew up near poverty and grew up with siblings who were teen moms. Everyone looked at her and believed she would become a teen mom also and nothing more. Her pregnancy project was to fake a pregnancy, which was also her senior project. She used this fake pregnancy to try to make students at her school and others around her to take teen pregnancy serious and encourage those teens to make responsible decisions.
Lucy Westenra presents a rejection to motherhood when she eats the body of a child and throws it away. ‘the new woman represented a threat not only to the social order, but also to the natural order. ’-101 ‘the child that she had clutched strenuously to her breast’ p.188 ‘scientific research defined a woman entirely in terms of body, one which characterised women’s bodies as devoid of passion. Science greatly feared sexual excess, which it felt could lead to men’s debilitation, which in turn could weaken the entire race. Since men’s passion was considered strong and more naturally inclined to excess, the controls were, instead, placed on women.

They insist that things are worse behind the scenes (Schumann). A show that is popular for young people and their babies is a great example for reality shows revolving around children. Teen Mom is a show all about young girls getting pregnant as teenagers. Many of the girls are between the ages of 16 and 18, so they are still children themselves. This show involves a ton of drama, not only because it involves screaming and crying babies, but also because the fathers are rarely there.
Teen pregnancy is a very big deal in the movie called “Pregnancy Pact.” This is a big eye opener if you are in a relationship or even if you're not. Gaby Rodriguez: Teen Mom? “Throughout life, we are put into boxes to categorize how people see and know us. This is how stereotypes originate, because people would rather read labels on the box instead of taking a look and seeing what’s inside.” (Rodriguez 154). In her memoir, The Pregnancy Project, writer Gaby Rodriguez gives details about how she was able to fake her own pregnancy while also hiding the truth from her siblings, boyfriend’s parents, and her entire community.

Maternal deprivation is a concept that was considered by Bowlby, to lead to adverse effects on the child who experienced it. Maternal deprivation is the interruption/separation between a child and its mother, or a lack of maternal care in early childhood, which may then go on to cause psychological problems in adult life. Bowlby investigated the results of several studies where children had been separated from their mothers and noticed stages that they went through – initially crying and clinging to adults, then their activity diminishes and they cry less often, they then withdraw from social interaction becoming absorbed in their toys and finally if they are picked up, they struggle or cringe away from the adult.
