Positive childhood development revolves around healthy interactions and habits which may be negatively impacted by technology and social media. Adolescents are surrounded by technology and social media which has many positive and negative effects. In the article Harmful Effects of Media on Children and Adolescents it mentions that media effects adolescents in many ways such as exposure to violence, substance abuse, early sexual initiation, and obesity. Children who are exposed to these things are more likely to be involved in them and access is right at their fingertips. Most screen time is not monitored by adults, so children are watching whatever they want and they begin to mimic the behaviors they are watching because “children cannot discriminate between reality and fantasy” (Harmful).
Becoming less social is one of the most common results of using cellphones in schools. While being able to connect with people who are feets away, students seem to favor going to social media or playing video games. To furthermore understand this issue, the article “How young is too young for cellphones in school?,” explains, “Students need face-to-face contact to develop social skills, expand friendships and learn to navigate uncomfortable situations.” In other words, in order for students to be able to gain life experiences from such a young age, they need to socialize. Nevertheless, middle and high school students should not be addicted to devices that generally represents an obstacle in the process of their maturnace growth.
Kids can handle social media to not just parents. Although; people may say that social media is bad for our community 's. It can be very helpful to the human race. Some people may say that social media can break up relationships, or distracted kids from their schoolwork, or even lower people 's self-esteem. But social media can do the complete opposite, it can help people get into relationships, social media helps market small businesses, and it can help students with school work.
This article is about social media and kids using communication devices. The author Hilary Stout makes the argument that kids using social media are not going to be well suited for face to face conversations. She also claims that the kids miss out on experiences that will help them with their communication skills. Stout’s first argument is that kids using social media and texting are not going to have good face to face communication.
In the ultimate analysis. Actually, on balance analysis, I agree that social media causes bad effects for teenager because social media take up a lot of time for children to study, and have a bad influence on the development of their body and mind health. Parents wonder if their children’s constant use of Instagram, Facebook or Snapchat is healthy. Teenagers talk about the pressure to post the perfect photo or to compete with the perfect lives their friends present on the Internet.
Annotated Bibliography Growing up digital: How the Internet affects teen identity Teens are often stressed and seeking validation, and they may look for that validation online through social media. This validation is “a vital part of how teens form identity” (Johnson 2014) according to psychologist Catherin Steiner-Adair. Social media allows teens and children to advertise their lives and expose them to choices and actions that were not available to previous generations. Although the method of looking for validation has changed, the reaction teens have has not. Without a fully developed prefrontal cortex, teens have less impulse control and therefore are more likely to disassociate cyberbullying from their “real lives.”
Smartphones also effects traditional learning skills. Students are not visiting the libraries as often because they can access the internet on their smartphones. This is a huge behavior of learning sessions as individuals engage in unacceptable learning styles. The use of libraries and traditional books for learning student knowledge is
With social media surrounding our society, it decreases students’ attention. Teenagers go on social medias, such as instagram, snapchat and twitter, to check people’s posts and like photos. Even if it’s just mental, a child’s focus is not on the task in hand. Disagreers may say that students can go on their phones in spare time and put it away when not needed, but people can still get distracted, if their phone is in sight or nearby. Many teenagers play games on their phone inside their desk to hide it from teachers.
I believe that video game use in children is bad especially in our society today because children are interacting more online and are highly influenced by the media whether it be in good or bad way. I strongly believe that children should play outside until the sun goes down and use their imagination instead of playing a game that has already made all of the rules for them. Even though Minecraft allows children to express their creativity by building their own world, the reality is that none of it is real and there is little interaction happening between their peers like they would have if they played outside. Interaction is key in childhood because learning to associate with other people is valued in society. Video games negatively influence
We read several articles about social media. According to Hilary Stout, she believes social media is harming kids today. I strongly agree with her claims because there are multiple cases has worsened or destroyed teens lives. The times that used to be private are now publicly announced on facebook or twitter. With the growing importance of social media in modern life, you see the increase in the popularity of technology across all age groups. Technology gives people a simple and easy way to communicate with others and to gather information. Because social media comes with multiple benefits it is seen only as a positive in modern day. This may not be exactly the case. Through my recent readings, I have found that social media does in fact have significant drawbacks and because of this I feel that people should cut back on their daily routine of technology use and social media. We have these interactions with “friends” over social media, and because we are having these interactions we believe that they are significant interactions.
