On July 20, 2016, Florida Senator Marco Rubio spoke to the Republican National Convention about democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton. Being a former candidate for president himself, Rubio seems to understand what is being discussed. In his speech, Senator Rubio gives reasons as to why Mrs. Clinton is not fit to be the next President of the United States. “Hillary Clinton has spent her lifetime on the inside of a rigged political system that puts special interests ahead of the American people.” (Rubio 2016) Rubio said in the opening of his speech. He used ethos by stating, “But unlike Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump is committed to cut taxes, curb spending and get our national debt under control.” (Rubio 2016) He also says that Trump takes Islamic threats serious unlike Clinton and Obama. This shows people that based on their morals and ethics, they should be against Clinton and vote for Trump. He stated, “And she turned her back on the fallen heroes in Benghazi, carelessly jeopardized our national security and then she lied about it to the American people.” (Rubio 2016) Like anyone else, Americans do not like to be lied to, especially by the government. Rubio believes that if voters connect Clinton to the lies in the past, they will not vote for her. He later says, “Hillary Clinton does not have the honesty, the courage or the independence to be the president we need for the next four years after the president we've had for the past eight.” (Rubio 2016) He uses this statement to convince voters that they can not and should not trust Clinton due to her past actions. “She was an ultra-liberal senator and a reliable vote for crony capitalism, Wall Street bailouts, middle-class tax hikes and out of control government spending.” This statement from Rubio uses logos.
