Abigail is later presented as autocratic and flirtatious. This is apparent when she tells John to ‘Give’ her ‘a word’. The use of the imperative verb ‘give’ portrays Abigail as very authoritative and controlling – suggesting she is a confident and strong character (and implies the relationship to be rather one-sided). She continues to describe his word as ‘soft’. This implies that Abigail has a flirtatious and provocative nature (who desires attention from
Women did not have equal rights like men did back in the 1960ś and this then caused a rise of the second feminist movement wave and lasted till 1990ś arrived. In the 1960ś women were limited to doing normal everyday things they did such as anything that involved schooling and going to work in certain areas, but the majority of women were known as stay at home wives. Not only did women not have equal rights, but had to deal with the domestic violence and rape at home for their husbands or any men. The feminist movement is for women who do not have reproductive rights, leave, equal pay, protection from sexual harassment, sexism, etc. Women are fighting for something they should’ve been obligated since they reached their legal age. The goal of the second wave of feminism was to secure the rights of women and have economic equality for women in workplaces and to have protection for

She is very determined about her running, and is very protective of her brother, Raymond. The author uses dialogue to reveal that Squeaky has the Character traits of determination, and protectiveness.
Hillary Clinton’s main purpose is to explain everyone how women’s rights are human rights. This is stated clearly as main claim and a conclusion in her speech. “If there is one message that echoes forth from this conference, let it be that human rights are women’s rights and women’s rights are human rights once and for all” (Clinton). She supports her main claim through inductive logic by giving examples of what women are suffering from. Clinton mentions about how the society is violating women’s right by stating how women are being set on fire, raped, abused, which is against the human rights. “It is a violation of human rights when women are doused with gasoline, set on fire, and burned to death because their marriage dowries are deemed too small” (Clinton). She also clarifies the fact that these issues are still held in many
Thousands of women have screamed at the top of their lungs, clawed at the patriarchy, and tirelessly fought for their rights as citizens of the United States of America. From the beginning of mankind, women have been labeled as inferior to men not only physically, but mentally and intellectually as well. Only in 1920 did women gain the right to voice their opinions in government elections while wealthy white men received the expected right since the creation of the United States. A pioneer in women’s suffrage, Susan B. Anthony publicly spoke out against this hypocrisy in a time when women were only seen as child bearers and household keepers. Using the United State’s very own Constitution and Declaration as ammunition, Anthony wrote countless
Cecily Strong is a comedian of the famous and popular show Saturday Night Live on NBC. She often works with her coworkers to made fun of what happening in the world. As a comedian, many of her jokes fall into the category of dry sarcasm. So, it is important to take that into consideration when watching the speeches she gives. In in April of 2015, she gave a speech at the White House Correspondents Dinner at the Washington Hilton.
This year’s presidential race has featured two of the most polarizing candidates ever, one of which will have the potential to change the trajectory of politics. Currently, Donald Trump, the Republican nominee is competing against Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee and voters could not be more divided. While Trump and Hillary’s use of rhetorical strategies successfully convey their message, their core fundamentals are what truly set them apart.
In “The Bernie Bomb” by Kimberley Strassel, critical, mocking tones emphasize Strassel’s feelings towards Bernie Sanders’ inability to become the President of the United States. Bernie Sanders gave quite a performance at the first Democratic debate of the year. Strassel shares her thoughts on the nature of his responses to important issues during the debate by concluding that his followers should regret making donations to his campaign seeing that he really is not in it to win. Her witty critiques indicate her strong feelings that donating to Sanders’ campaign in hopes that he will become President, is truly not worth the money.
Throughout America's history, the design of our currency has been changed quite a few times for reasons such as, avoiding counterfeit threats or to instill and show our American pride. In 2020, the U.S. will be changing the face of the $10 bill to a woman's face. The year 2020 is significant because it is the 100th year anniversary of when women gained the right to vote. You could say there are many women that deserve this honor, but I believe that Lucy Stone should be the one featured on the bill because of her many contributions to the evolution of American democracy.
She begins, “Mr. President, I speak as a Republican. I speak as a woman. I speak as a United States senator. I speak as an American” (Smith 621). She exudes pride in her gender to both address and dismiss common prejudice regarding the issue. Heavily emphasizing the achievements of the Republican party, Smith asserts how successful and trustworthy she is by association. At the same time she flatters and praises her party members. Smith states, “As a Republican, I say to my colleagues on this side of the aisle that the Republican party faces a challenge today that is not unlike the challenge which it faced back in Lincoln’s day. The Republican party so successfully met that challenge that it emerged from the Civil War as the champion of a united nation- in addition to being a party which unrelentingly fought loose spending and loose programs” (622). She directly references and separates herself from the ideals she disagrees with by saying, “As an American, I condemn a Republican Fascist just as much as I condemn as Democrat Communist. I condemn a Democrat Fascist just as much as I condemn a Republican Communist” (623), as well as, “As an American, I want to see our nation recapture the strength and unity it once had when we fought the enemy instead of ourselves” (623). The senator inspires patriotism and provokes a collective dislike of “the enemy”
When one establishes a connection with their audience, it becomes easier to talk about personal and controversial things just as when she talked about what her husband has gone through regarding his citizenship and religious affiliation. She then implies that Donald Trump is immature and inexperienced to become the president; she reinforces this idea when she subtly implies Donald Trump’s “tendency to lash out” as well as him having an empty record of “public service”. After a series of statements supporting Hillary Clinton as well as the importance of equality and unity, she closes her speech by urging the audience to take part in the
Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign had a few scandals. One of them was that she was a corrupt politician and so she got the nickname “Crooked Clinton”, but probably her biggest scandal were her emails. She had sent government emails with classified information on a private unsecured server setup at her house. She was under investigation by the FBI during the first part of her campaign. Towards the end of the campaign some hackers thought to originate from Russia hacked her server and started to release her emails to the public which really hurt her
Today Representative Nancy Pelosi (Democrat-CA 18th district) becomes the first woman elected as Speaker of US House of Representatives. She is arguably the most powerful woman in Washington DC; Senator Clinton notwithstanding. It is the beginning of 110th congress, the first time democrats have held the majority in 12 years. However, Speaker Pelosi is no stranger to historical firsts. Speaker Pelosi made history in 2002 when she became the first woman elected House Democratic minority leader. Today is somewhat of a coronation of a life long political journey to the top of congressional politics. Who is Nancy Pelosi? Pelosi was born and raised Nancy D'Alesandro in the Little Italy district of Baltimore, Maryland. Pelosi hails from a family
She talks incessantly about income inequality, and one of her favorite topics of all time is talking about the privileged wealthy and all the breaks they get.
Beyonce is not the only celebrity deny her beautiful black skin. Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Lil Kim, and Keri Hilson have all been said to use skin lightener. I do not believe we should bleach our skin to meet ‘Eurocentric’ beauty standards or make any one else happy. We should all be happy and comfortable in our own skin. We were born to be different we have to accept it. My question now is, can we all be fair colored? How would it have been in this world if everybody was fair? If you walked out of the house and each person was white skinned bearing the same faces how would it have been? Would that not have been boring? The most interesting thing about this country is that we have variety. Some are black, white, Hispanics, and others are Asian.
