Hindustan Unilever Ltd. is an Indian Consumer goods company with base of operations in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is owned by Anglo-Dutch giant Unilever which has a stake of about 51.51% in HUL and is the controlling company of HUL. HUL manufactures foods, beverages, cleaning agents, water purifiers and personal care products.
Hindustan Unilever Ltd. came to existence as a result of the merger between Lever Brothers, Hindustan Vanaspati Mfg. Co. Ltd. and United Traders Ltd in 1956. It is constantly ranked as one of the most trusted Brands of India.

ECONOMY AND MARKETS
In Indian market, there was a muted growth observed for a second successive year. The year saw contracted industrial activity and steep currency depreciation and weakened consumption demand.
Because of sluggish economic growth and heightened inflation, market growth across FMCG sector was fluctuating. Premium segment was particularly under pressure. Overall, the operating context was challenging and due to market slowdown, the growth was not observable.
PERFORMANCE OF BUSINESSES AND CATEGORIES

• Home & Personal Care (HPC)- During the year, the HPC business registered robust growth ahead of market. The opportunity for growth in India continues to be immense across all HPC categories.
