The media uses the now mythic symbols of masculinity to enforce their ideologies. What the general public does not know, in relation to the spread of the ideology enforcing toxic standards for masculinity, is the way. People do not know why men are expected to act in a violent way, they just assume that is has always been this way and as such they perpetuate the idea. People do not like to seem stupid, so even if someone does not know why something is the way it is, like why men should be violent, they still believe and understand it as a truth because they assume that is the way it has always been. Men in American culture have been using a system of values with no idea why for far too long.
For a long time in my life I thought to get what you want in life you had to be behind the gun and not in front of it. But now, I see that violence only creates violence and true change comes from non-violence. I am writing this paper to argue that Martin Luther King's non-violent protest are more successful than violent protest. To start off, Martin Luther King had every right to protest. The reason I say this is because the social contract was broken.

Many of his encounters and mentions in the text concern young black males and his writing follows an evolution in the representation of this specific social group. He initially portrays them as arrogant, poor, and uneducated but eventually develops their image to include the positive effects of their culture in an attempt to negate their historical misrepresentation. McBride begins his essay in high contrast to his intended purpose with an anecdotal discussion of his first encounters with Hip Hop music that inevitably represents black men as arrogant, aggressive, and poor.

He used examples from modern hip-hop and broke down the overarching meaning in attitudes developed in result to what mainstream media depicts. In the music video and song of “Gangsta`s Paradise” by Coolio, the lyrics and meaning behind the music video
Something that changed, on the other hand, is the numbers of supporters he had. Even a newspaper that’s famous within the black community in the country, The Pittsburgh Courrier, blamed King for being “tragically misleading” with the black Americans. Everyone disagreed with his idea, objecting that there is no link between the civil rights and war. King said that instead of shooting our enemies, it should be necessary for us to love and respect them. Even so, money is being spent effortlessly on the war, instead of helping the lower class which it was a promise the government didn’t keep.
Harlem was not a friendly, rich, white town, so the fact that he chose this setting it made the reader automatically assume that these brothers did not grow up in a stable environment. The narrator described the very stereotypical gang members in Harlem being “filled with rage” and “popping off needles every time they went to the head” (Baldwin 123). Lastly, the change in the author's tone was very evident. The readers could notice when the narrator was talking about life in Harlem or Sonny’s drug abuse because it had a very bitter and cold tone. However, when Sonny was talking about his music the tone was hopeful and positive.
His actions inspired Mahatma Gandhi to take civil action against Britain how was ruling over them at the time, leading to their independence.
