There were important historical causes of World War I, some of which were the quest for power and the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. This war was one of the greatest wars of all, but what actually happened before that war to make peace disappear. For the first cause, technologies and resources were advanced in Europe such as vehicles, weapons and building techniques at the start of the twentieth century. All countries in Europe started to try gaining more power, more land and more business than others since then; especially Britain, France and Germany, they competed against each other. Later, the Germans started to build modern factories so Britain got nervous while France was having more colonies, money and power. These three countries got …show more content…

To prevent war from that tension, Britain, Russia and France formed an alliance, so as Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy did. Second, there were an assassination on June 28, 1914; it had all started from the tension because of Serbia wanted its independence. Bosnia and Herzegovina are parts of Austria-Hungary, many Serbs lived there, but Serbs didn’t want the Austria-Hungary Empire to rule them. So Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian student who was supported by a group of Serbian terrorist, assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife in the carriage when the are visiting the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Austria-Hungary now declared war on Serbia on July 28. Other countries defended their allies, therefore most of the Europe was in war by mid-August.
