History is one of the most important aspects of any profession. Modern nursing has proud heritage through its founder that is Florence Nightingale who lived from 1820 to 1910. Nursing is the protection, promotion and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through a diagnosis and treatment of human response, advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities and populations. Nursing encompasses autonomous and collaborative care of individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities, sick or well in all setting. Nursing include promotion of health, prevention of illness, participation in shaping health policy in patient and health system management and education also key of nursing role. The history of nursing in Malaysia began from about the year 1800. Nursing practice in the pre-war period in Malaya then was carried out by nurses who receive on the job training with lectures given by expatriates that are European sisters, matron and doctor at the hospital level. Nursing Board Malaysia (NBM) is the body that regulates the nursing profession in Malaysia. The nursing profession irrespective of the areas of practice makes it crucially important to have set standards to communicate professional expectations, criteria that measure these standards and an audit tool for measuring professional performances.
