INTRODUCTION
Eating healthy is what everyone should practice as it can help in living a healthy lifestyle and not be threatened by diet-related illness. Dietetics is branch of knowledge concerned with diet and its effect of health, and with the practical application of scientific understanding nutrition.
HISTORY OF DIETETICS IN WORLD
Dietetics begun in the ancient Greeks (19th century) when they realised the important of nutrition because they believed that a proper diet is a way of living a healthy lifestyle. They recognised the importance of diet in both health and illness. They believed many diseases were caused by unhealthy diet and nutritional food was a very common way of treating the various human illnesses.
Plato says the “physicians”

World War was in progress as that brought early dietitians together to discuss the feeding needs and it was also recognised that the services of dietitians in hospital were important, both in food service and in treating illness with diet. According to Plato ‘the therapeutic approach to human diseases should be made through the regulation of diet than with …show more content…
In 1984 and 1996 another memorandum were send to the Ministry of Health by then the Chief Dieticians Mrs A.Owusu to train dieticians locally in one of the universities. Again nothing positive achieved.
The hospital future of dietetics in the country was in risky. As there was a shortage of dietetics , the problem would be fixed permanently only when they will allow professional dieticians to be trained in one of the university in the country.
Diet-related diseases were discovered and dieticians were limited to treat patients. Most of the diseases were caused by dietary deficiencies and only few dieticians were available in the country and specialised clinics where diet therapy plays a very important role are now working in the hospitals in the country.
In the beginning of 1998 a 6 month training campaign in dietetics was held at Korle-bu. This skill-based campaign was known as the “stop gap” campaign admitted bachelor graduates from nutritional and sciences. The dietetics in Ghana trained two cohorts of dieticians who went to fill dieticians position in the Ministry of
The doctors thought that the improved nutrition would help kill the bacteria. It was not often known at that time to the doctors that the improved nutrition of the patients helped them fight the tuberculosis (Ryan 28). The doctors in the book knew that the patients would have better odds if their bodies were more prepared to fight the tuberculosis. Naomi and Eudora were tasked with enforcing the patients' eating habits. The regulated diets were only a small part of everyday life at the
In turn, he provides his own rules for escaping the western diet as well as the idea of nutritionist set forth by scientists. Then Pollan explains that scientific theories of nutritionist focus on individual nutrients rather than foods as a whole. He further goes on to refute this claim mentioning that these scientific theories contradict with one another. Pollan explains “the scientists who blame our health problems on deficiencies of [micronutrients] are not the same scientists who see a sugar soaked diet leading to metabolic syndrome and from there to diabetes, heart disease…” (Pollan, 421).
In chapter one (Escape from the Western Diet) of Michael Pollans book In Defense of Food, Pollan informs people about what he believes needs to happen in order to change the health issues that many people in American are facing today. Pollan begins the chapter by discussing the many different scientific theories that have been presented in response to the western diet and the western diseases that follow. He informs the readers that many of the theories conflict with one another and that even scientist gravitate towards simple one part solutions that many time fail to see the bigger picture of the problem. At this point in his book Pollan (2008) states one of his many thesis’s that, “People eating the Western diet are prone to complex of chronic
Main Argument and Thesis The main point of the article is that diets can often be dependent upon geographic surroundings. Diets can provide essential nutrients and minerals in various ways. Supporting Evidence The authors, Patricia Gadsby and Leon Steele, support their main point through using nutritional evidence, referencing scientific studies, and providing dialogue from multiple individuals.
This appeals to our physiological needs because naturally, humans need to eat food and to hear from a professional that there are other influences outside of food that are giving cause to the obesity crisis gives Americans a slight sigh of relief when it comes to the degree of toxicity of our foods. Furthermore, that people eat a more wholesome diet versus those that do not, tend to be healthier than that live on fast and processed foods, there are also stark differences to recognize between these classes that should be taken into account as well such as the tendency to engage in exercise, air quality, and other health considerations such as smoking and
Relevance between Food and Humans with Rhetorical Analysis In the modern industrial society, being aware of what the food we eat come from is an essential step of preventing the “national eating disorder”. In Michael Pollan’s Omnivore’s Dilemma, he identifies the humans as omnivores who eat almost everything, which has been developed into a dominant part of mainstream unhealthiness, gradually causing the severe eating disorder consequences among people. Pollan offers his opinion that throughout the process of the natural history of foods, deciding “what should we have for dinner” can stir the anxiety for people based on considering foods’ quality, taste, price, nutrition, and so on.
People involved in patient care share the same conviction that when a sick person commits to a doctor their nutrition health should be assured. When a patient enters the hospital and places oneself in the hands of a doctor, it gives the patient a feeling of security. Patients don’t expect to suffer from this condition, but yet there is evidence
Today’s society is surfaced with various problems, one of them being our diet along with obesity. The health of our country’s people has become a national problem. One’s diet is based upon their choices, but even then there are many controversial views upon what is healthy and what is not. Two essays that I read uniquely present their views on this topic. First, there is “Food as Thought: Resisting the Moralization of Eating” by Mary Maxfield and then there is “Don’t Blame the Eater” by David Zinczenko.

The Spartan’s think that this “method” is useful and practical. The method is neither of those terms. When these adolescents starve themselves, they are deprived of nutrients to keep the body functioning, and protein to motivate the body to build tissues and protein is also an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood. All in all, keeping food away from youths whose body needs food in order to
On a differing take on the solution, “Escape from the Western Diet” by Michael Pollan provides the complete change of our diet and way of life based around cooking and eating meals. however creates a more powerful and logical argument against the “Western Diet” in his article, He uses a combination of his credibility from his publications on health and foods, evidence against the practices of the medical community, along with his solution to the issue of obesity to create an article that draws in audience’s emotions and rationale. Pollan’s strongest points in his article was the use of credibility and his ability to bring logic and reason to most of his points against medical society and the publics solution to obesity. Pollan comes in with a stronger
I combined how your nutrition is important because it can prevent you from getting sick or becoming overweight and suffering. Lack of nutrition education, marketing persuading consumers to want harmful food, and the healthcare system not being effective all have to deal with why healthy nutrition is not being focused on or accomplished. This topic is important and interesting if you are interested in global healthcare or local healthcare. Each one of the problems can be solved or reduced to focus on the human nutrition or to decrease the rate of deaths due to obesity, heart failures, etc. The research and the 7-step plan, promoting healthier food options, and reduction of pills and helping patients learn about nutrition are all ways to improve the lack of
Nutrition Topic: Nutrition Organization: Topically Specific Purpose: To inform my audience the importance of proper nutrition I. INTRODUCTION A. Attention getter: Did you know that more than two thirds of adults are considered to be overweight or obese in the United States? If obesity rates stay consistent, about 51% of the population by the year 2030 will be obese.
Another way physical needs were met was through a healthy balanced school dinner catered around the needs of the children. They school dinners consisted of
Our society has helped create a definition of dieting that is not only harmful to the body but also does not work. The proper definition of a diet would be the food and drink a person consumes daily and the mental and physical circumstances connected to eating. The public’s definition of a diet is to restrict oneself to small amounts or special kinds of food in order to lose weight. Those who engage in this sort of dieting begin with the wrong mentality. They believe by undertaking a diet they will lose weight and keep it off, when in reality most people fail with diets.
