Where is Beijing? What does Beijing look like? With a history that is more than 3000 years, Beijing is an amazing mix of old and new. Beijing has many world-renowned historical sites, such as The Forbidden City, The Summer Palace, The Temple of Heaven, The Great Wall, etc, and countless eye-catching modern skyscrapers and building groups, such as China World, National Stadium which is popularly known as Bird Nest, National Aquatics Center, known as Water Cube, etc, which attract millions of people all over the world to come to Beijing for travel every year.
Although modern buildings can provide people a more comfortable environment to work and live in, traditional Siheyuan (courtyard houses) and Hutong (alleys) are still the most authentic accommodation and living pattern in Beijing, a full embodiment of Confucianism of "the great unity of human beings and nature", the most popular Chinese philosophy.
I was born and raised in a courtyard house which was built in the Qing Dynasty in the downtown area, and I still clearly remembered that I never used any kinds of air conditioners until I moved into an apartment of a multi-story residential building.
