There is a desperate situation that is taking place in our own backyard. In order for us not to feel guilty, there are some that will act as if they’ve not seen the problem or will try to alleviate the problem with a one-time quick fix. This desperate situation is the homeless population within our cities that seem to increase without any decrease. Yes, there is a preconception that a person who is homeless is some form of addict, alcoholic, mentally ill, or just maybe, have we ever thought that they are just down on their luck. Now days, when you drive anywhere in Visalia, you will encounter one or more people who are homeless. Whether on street corners or perched in the vicinity of Target or Walmart, you will see someone holding a sign that …show more content…
They are sometimes viewed as a pariah. We need to realize that just because they are homeless, does that mean that they are going to rob you but, maybe they’ll just ignore you as you’ve always ignored them. We need to take into account that they are someone’s father, mother, brother, sister, etc. and wouldn’t treat our own family in such a way. There are things that happen in each of our lives that have affected us greatly, so who’s to say that a person down on their luck isn’t going through a traumatic situation. Maybe all we need to do is stop and ask if they are ok. It doesn’t cost anything to be nice to someone or just …show more content…
First and foremost, individuals or couples that have children will be registered and place immediately. Once in the system, they will meet with a case worker, who will then determine if they need drug rehabilitation or a psychiatric evaluation. It is very important that they are referred to a doctor for a physical and bloodwork in case they need immediate medical help and to test for any diseases that need to be addressed. From there they will speak to someone a rehab/mental health worker will assist them according to their needs. These evaluations will be mandatory if they want to receive any form of assistance. Putting them in a mandatory program will start them on the right path and upon completion of a program, they will begin the process of attending some form of vocational training. A good honest job is what they are aiming for and the state should financially assist them until they are solidly on their feet. Keep in mind, that it is “assist” not carry for life. This will begin to show how determined they are to get off streets and start a new life. Once on their feet, they will be contracted to volunteer a certain number of hours to assist others that have been in the same situation. It is only right to pay kindness
According to Aykanian and Lee (2016) individuals who are homeless are often “common targets of policing when their behavior, especially behavior performed in public spaces, is viewed as offensive and deviant” (p. 184). A related point to consider is that some who experience homelessness do engage in criminal activities, but one shall not combine all members in a generalization. Hence, the image of having individuals who are homeless is not ideal for the people in communities, but it does not take into account people who are experiencing
Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin also known from her pseudonym George Sand, once said “charity degrades those who receive it and hardens those who dispense it.” Those who give to others solely believe they are helping for the greater good. While those receiving more or less don’t reciprocate the same gratitude. It comes from human nature to believe deep down to help others less fortunate than one. Generosity spreads to those in need creates gratitudes to those who dispense.
The world is selfish place, full of selfish people with cruel intentions. No one does anything descent or kind for anyone else, without it benefitting themselves in some kind of way. Kindness (generosity?) isn 't free. We all pay for it in the end…eventually.
There was also a man that took out his wallet, pulled out all the money he had, and put them into the box. Then, there was an old lady that searched through her pockets, finding only some quarters. Kindness is something everyone should have. It doesn’t matter if it’s toward a family member, a friend, or a stranger. Kindness is important to our society, especially as it grows more diverse and complex.
We’ve all been down on our luck before, but some are dealt a worse hand than others. Usually in these situations no one is to blame, and yet this mode of thinking doesn’t seem to extend to the homeless: a person becomes homeless due to their poor decisions. But why do we blame homeless people for being homeless? Negative stereotypes regarding homelessness are pervasive in our culture. In today’s society, it is too easy to look down upon those who’ve lost their houses and livelihoods.
My entire life has changed due to my kindness. Therefore, should I no longer be kind? Why offer my assistance to others if the outcome is penalization? These questions torment my mind; do I acknowledge what's happening around me, or should I just drive by? All I wanted to do was help people, and now, all I do is suffer.
These things can include affordable and stable housing, secure employment that pays a sufficient income, making sound decisions, and having reliable public transportation. They also need to have and choose to have supportive relationships within their lives and that can come from friends, family, kids, and even those they are in a relationship with. They need to connect with people who do not have criminal attitudes and behaviors, and need to work towards regaining legal and physical custody of their children if it is applicable. These stable relationships will give them someone to turn to or lean on when they are having a difficult time or if they are struggling with choices and decisions about their life. They also need to work on connecting to social services and community agencies because they can lend them help when it may be needed.
In one circumstance, we may feel the need to give to those who are poor to keep them from getting in our personal space; and in other circumstances we feel that we give to others out of the kindness of our heart. I completely agree with Ascher and her views on compassion, because I have been in similar situation where I have questioned why people give money, and whether they give with a whole heart or out of necessity. Furthermore, this essay can teach us plenty of lessons that can be utilized throughout our lives so we can teach others and make them aware of the need to be more
A good question to ask about homeless people therefore is how do preconceived notions and stereotypes about homeless people cause city governments and it’s citizenry to treat them as inferiors who need to be hidden? Sometimes in our society, the homeless are stereotyped as homeless because they are to lazy to get a job and work hard. It seems a common belief in America that the benefits that life comes with almost always come after hard work.
This problem had always existed. There’s no specific date on how it all started. In fact, it’s very common. This is about the homeless. In Charlotte, there are many people on the streets, even in the past.
We as a community should be more involved with this issue as well as put more of our focuses on helping the homeless community. The homeless community is like burnt out flames hoping to find sparks to reignite them again. To begin with, homeless people are not living in a place that is meant for human habitation. The effects of homelessness on
Homelessness is one the most ignored problems in the United States with citizen and politician. Homeless people are walked by and ignored. Nobody ever thinks that they will be homeless. Due to the economy, people live paycheck to paycheck making house payments very difficult. Most people will want to believe most homeless people are drug addicts or alcoholics, but most people will be surprise to know that it is no all true.

The issue of homelessness in America has been evident since the early 1600’s. Across the country men, women and children spend their nights on the streets not knowing when or if they will ever find a permanent home. States and federal officials or city councils have tried to alleviate or at least reduce the number of homeless over the last several decades at a city, state or national level but it continues to be an ongoing problem. There is a multitude of factors that account for the growing homeless population that affects each state in the country differently. Though there are many contributing factors that contribute to the amount of people living on the street at any given night in the U.S.
Compassion and good intentions can often lead to the cruelest, harshest actions. Despite this, people still strive to do what is best for others and be selfless, even if it means making a decision that nobody wants to
