Most kids have after school sports or activities, and some cannot make it are late to those programs because they have too much homework and cannot finish it on time. Children can also get extremely stressed, have nervous breakdowns, anxiety, or even depression due to the amount homework they get. In fact, stress from too much homework can actually lead to falling grades. According to Teen Ink, a website that has articles on various topics written by teenagers, “ Too much homework can cause stress in a student and lead to health issues in the body and mind. Homework related anxiety and stress can affect school work negatively,” ( “Should Students Get Less Homework”1).
Since 1095 students have been tortured with homework in american school systems. Homework is believed to be created by a school teacher in 1095 by a school teacher Roberto Nevillis. Everyone has faced the inevitable pressure of multiple homework assignments in multiple classes that are all do on the same day. Students are receiving too much homework and there needs to be a limit on how much homework a student can receive each week.
Thirdly, homework causes a student to be more pessimistic about school and grades. Students shouldn’t have homework for reasons that their grade can drop, it causes stress, and their attitude to school becomes negative. First of all, students shouldn’t have homework since students can achieve superior grades. Quoting livescience.com, “ According to Richard Walker, an educational psychologist at Sydney University, data shows that in countries where more time is spent on homework, students score lower on a standardized test called the Program for International Student Assessment, or PISA. The same correlation is also seen when comparing homework time and test performance at schools within countries.”
SHOULD SCHOOLS GIVE STUDENTS HOMEWORK? Do you ever feel so overwhelmed with homework that you wish it failed to prevail? Whether or not teachers should give students homework has evolved into a significant controversy that has been up for debate for decades. It has the potential to affect the lives of students in many ways. Homework is much alike to an ocean full of stress and frustration.
First of all, without teacher assistance at home, the chances of making mistakes increase. Frustrated by mistakes resulting from not having any teacher guidance at home, students may feel stressed and anxious. Making mistakes can additionally cause students to feel like they are stupid and can cause students, who already dislike school, to dislike it even more. Also, homework takes away valuable time from other commitments that students have.
Imagine yourself on a Friday and your just sitting in your desk, staring at the clock waiting for the bell to ring, well Cris lived it. Cris has plans for the weekend today he's going to a friend's house and tomorrow he is going to the mall and as an early Christmas present his parents gave him two hundred dollars to spend at the mall, he just can't talk for the weekend and then he heard this “The homework for the week will be a 5-10 thousand word essay on how The Happy Birthday song was made and it will count as a test grade.” In his mind he feels upset and realized his weekend is ruined. Cris cannot do anything because of this homework and if it wasn't graded he could cancel one of his plans and not stress out about it. Students get so much homework to do in a little amount of time that it is unbelievable, they get enough work in the 7 hours of school and then you may get 7 hours of homework after school so students should not have graded homework, if homework was not graded it would be considered a formative assessment
If positivity is absent during math, students will begin to doubt and devalue their math skills. These positive messages can then override whatever they have heard in the past. Unfortunately, math is different than other subjects, it “…is taught in ways that are not used by other subject teachers, and people hold beliefs about mathematics that they do not hold about other subjects” (Boaler 21). Alongside the negative messages of math comes the crippling exams and tests that come along with math students seem to have high anxieties about. Math is tested more frequently than any other subject in the U.S. (Boaler 21), which can be exhausting and debilitating.
Do think you could bring it to me as soon as possible? I have math next hour and if I don’t have it my teacher will be really mad.” I said frantically “ Sure honey I’ll bring it. How did you forget it in the first place?” my mom said “Umm… Its a long story…” I replied “So it all started Sunday night when I started watching my favorite show on Netflix.
America’s Depressed, Stressed, Oppressed Kids “83% of teens said that school was ‘a somewhat or significant source of stress,’” (Shapiro). School is known for stressing students out. And then both of you will be lonely in your life. In my view, these reasons can cause to commit suicide because drinking affects their brain and it causes some psychological problems and they can not think carefully in their life while they are making decisions. Last but not least, using alcohol always affects our success in a bad way, because when we drink something , we can not get up early, so we go to school lately and we can miss our lessons. It also affects our exams. This circle continues until our work life.
